Hi all,

My fiance has had this on her hand for under 2 months and already bent 2 prongs. Has no idea how she did it. It supposed to be platinum head. Any advise for me? I am sending it back for repair Monday.
She told me last night "I just looked at it and noticed 2 prongs are bent, one badly. Only thing I have heard her say about the ring in the time she has had it on is that it snags her clothes and always has lint on the prongs.

Sorry if this isn't the forum for this. I looked and couldnt' figure the best spot for it

Even if it's platinum, she could have caught it on something and it could have bent. Platinum is not indestructible.

I can't tell from your pictures, but it looks like the head is set fairly high on the ring - you could ask JA to lower the stone a bit?

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but didn't you say you wanted six prongs because shell always be wearing it and sure very active?

Even platinum 6 prongs shouldn't be worn during every activity.

Yes I realize its not indestructible and yes good memory, yep, I wanted 6 prongs because she is very active. Good thing right? if it were 4 the stone might have fell out. I did ask JA for thin prongs.. maybe that didn't help and it needs thicker ones? Maybe ask that it be double checked with fixed to ensure all prongs are in contact with the diamond and smoothed so its not snagging things?

I would have had the prongs checked if it snags and catches lint.

My old ring (Tiffany 6 prongs with channel set side stones)'s prongs bent horribly I had to have them repaired. I'm glad she caught it before the stone fall off. Have JA repair the prongs and tell her to be careful with her ring especially when working with hands or putting sweaters on.

Would a lovely bezel setting suit an active lifestyle better? It sounds like Lauren loves wearing her ring but might be more comfortable with one that is much more hassle free.

I agree. I remember she didn't like the James Allen bezel, but what about this one? Not a bad price, and its very "tiffanys"

But of she's keen on wearing the same bad as before, which is understandable, but she might just consider taking it off while doing active things, or cleaning, showering, or whatever else she could be doing.

lovely ring --however, that type of head set high is very exposed. the longer the prongs the easier that they will bend when knocked. i highly recommend lowering the stone.

Thanks for the replies. Yes she didn't like the bezel settings but if this happens again maybe she will think different. I will talk about these options with JA tomorrow. I'm really wondering about the prongs. I believe they thinned them up for me which may have had an affect on their structural integrity. I will update this post later. Thanks again

I believe this style of the head will lend itself to getting hooked on things, especially if it's worn 24/7. For an active person you might consider a cathedral setting or something where the head has support coming from the sides of the band or where the head has a basket.

Agree, a cathedral setting might provide more protection to the prongs/head.

Semi-bezel an option? Sholdt make gorgeous styles!

cheers--Sharon

I think that head was just too flimsy. Need something more substantial, like a 4 prong low Solstice (by Stuller.)

I don't think that basket is compatible with her ring. Tammy, my rep at JA, called me yesterday and suggested this

But Loryn doesn't really care for it because its still 4 prongs

Alas - I too had that problem. Until I had my ring updated with the Split Prong Stuller. You can see a great picture that Mara posted here:

It's a very heavy head though. My ring doesn't flip because of the weight of the whole ring - it's a wide band.

Good luck!
I am liking the last picture in that thread. I will run it by Loryn tonight and JA when they get the ring. That might be an option.

Here is a video of Loryns actual ring.. She is thinking that even though the prongs look very nice being that thin.. it made them weak.

The other option is get this ring fixed back to how it was new.. and she doesn't wear it to work or anything anymore. I will keep showing her these options and let her decide. The ring gets shipped out today.

^ It doesn't appear that will fit on our ring design but thanks!!

Well JA called Friday. They want to put a regular 6 prong 1ct platinum head on there instead of the thin one that is on it. It would be more robust. I agreed. They said they could try and fix the thin prongs at no charge.. but I think that wouldnt' fix the problem, it would just be a quick fix... So I authorized the new head after Loryn said thats what she thought was the best option. $150 + tax for the change and should be done later this week. I will be sure to post it. Thank you everyone! I need to find insurance for this thing that is not a rider on my homeowners.

This is great news! :D

looking forward to the new ring (prongs) it is a beautiful stone.. I am glad you all worked it out.
