Hi!
I am new here and recently purchased my wedding band, and had a question about the setting. I just don''t know what it is called. This ring was the only one in the store that had the diamonds set like this. It seems like it would called a 2 shared prong setting? But I figured I might as well ask since you guys seem to know your stuff around here ;) Here is a pic and a link to a ring very similar/almost idenical to mine where you can see a better pic of the setting. Do you guys think teh diamonds are more prone to damage, shifting etc because of the lack of prongs? I love the look of the ring, but I am just worried that the diamonds are not secured enough

Definitely a shared prong setting. I can''t tell if the side prong (the center peak of the ''W'') shown on the BN example covers the girdle or sits *just* underneath. Does yours have the same profile? Hmmmm...

At any rate: I don''t think this setting style is particularly prone to the shifting you mention as long as the stones are set properly to begin with, but I would be careful with any exposed diamond girdles. If they rub or knock around on something equally hard (other diamonds is the first thing that comes to mind), they can certainly nick and chip.

Your ring is beautiful, by the way!

I agree with Firemonkey. From the closeup shot of the "w" on BN, I would say it definitely falls a little below the girdle. I understand the nervous feeling and I would probably be nervous, too, not that there would be reason to be. It is beautiful. :)

It looks likes a shared single prong set, I have a modified bar set that I wanted to look like a single prong but more metal on the diamond so to speak so it is more sturdier I guess, and the girdle is slightly exposed so yes it does rub my Ering but there is also a gap as well, if I don't push them up together so much. Its beautiful nonetheless

Thanks!
Hmm, mine doesn''t do the W thing. Here is a profile pic, not great quality pic, though. It seems like they sit on more of a bowl shape than a W. The wb diamonds don''t seem to rub against the e-ring diamond, but the e-rings prongs do. The e-ring is in white-gold.

yours have the basket underneath that probably helps protect and under expose the girdle so thats great that the diamond girdle doesn't scratch your ering, I think as long as you have great craftsmanship. it will be fine, (make sure you have insurance on it, just in case the off chance that it does get damage -since it looks like your wedding band has some nice size pointers)
Memoires carries a line with single shared prongs as well, and they have fine craftsmanship.

ETA: here is a link to memoire just for reference on your style of band

Thanks for your advice guys. Makes me feel alot better, plus I learned some "technical terms" ;)
Ill check out that brand. Previously, I tried searching for rings like mine, and couldn''t find anything other then the BN site..

Pearlman''s carries the Memoire line. Quality through and through..
