I lost my engagemnet ring in MArch and am replacing it. I have deicided (along with hubby to upgrade and change the setting). I am going to Atlanta to shop with a friend this Thurs. If I find a setting I LOVE is it ok to purchase it and then later purchase a loose diamond (after reading more about diamonds and ldeciding where I want to purchase it from).

I know I want to go with a 1.5 center stone. Will a store (possibly the Atlanta Mart) be able to tell me which settings I can choose from for a center stone of this size. I don't want to take any chances of it not being able to be set after I purchse a setting. Also, who can set the diamond ?

Do you recommend purchasing a loose diamond first, then the setting OR is it ok to do it this way?

Thanks a bunch. I am new to this. Shelly

Welcome to Pricescope Shelly.

Something you might consider is taking notes on the styles you like most when you're out with your friend. Then, when searching for your loose diamond, look at the settings offered by the diamond sellers you're considering. They may have something in a style you like, making it possible to get both diamond and setting from the same place.

Along with John''s advice, which I would have also given, another reason to not purchase prior to the stone is, you may end up with a different size than you have in mind right now, and many setting heads are made to the specific diameter of your diamond. I would just hate to see you end up in a position where it becomes really difficult.
