Just recieved this news from GIA....thought I would pass it along.
Beginning March 15, GIA will issue reports in a revised format. The new reports have dimensions similar to the current versions; they will consume less paper and other materials; and have enhanced security features including a unique and durable proprietary paper.
GIA will, upon request, offer no-cost reissues for reports issued on or after July 1, 2012. Reissues of reports dated Jan. 1, 2012, to June 30, 2012, will be available for a nominal fee. Please check the GIA website GIA.edu for details on how to request reissues. The previous reports must be returned to GIA before any reissues can be processed.
The new GIA Diamond Grading Report is half the weight of the previous versions, which will reduce storage and postage costs. As an enhancement linked to the new format, GIA’s online Report Check service now includes all GIA grading and identification reports. QR codes printed on each report will verify the document’s authenticity through a direct link to Report Check.
Our current report sleeve contains vinyl. There are indications that some nations may move to ban products that contain vinyl. The new branded report sleeve is made of a biodegradable non-vinyl material. The new sleeves should not be mixed with the previous vinyl sleeves and the new reports should not be placed into the previous sleeves due to a potential interaction that could discolor the new report paper.
