Hi All -

I just had a new GIA cert. done on a diamond previously certified by GIA. The original cert was done in 1998, the new cert. in 2005.

While the certs are generally the same, I guess I expected them to be almost identical. Should I be concerned with the differences? Here are the facts. Differences shown in Red. I''m surprised that the table size was measured 61 in ''98, and now 59%. I guess I thought some graders would be more specific listing inclusions, but I didn''t expect the measurements to change. Also, any thoughts on quality of this cut and/or value? Would appreciate any comments. Thanks!

Plus the new 2005 shows an additional cloud, not shown on the first, but otherwise similar.

Hi Kid

The diameter is a really minor issue, if one at all, as the equipment varies.

I believe the GIA has upgraded their lab equipment and technique since 1998, so make a HUGE ASSUMPTION here I would say the more accurate report is the new one.

As far as value, the stone needs to be seen to be accurate.

KidG,

I think the impressive part about your post isn''t what DID change, it''s what DIDN''T. The variations you''ve seen in table and diameter have little to no effect on the overall value of the diamond. Had the stone come back a higher/lower color or higher/lower clarity you would have been either very happy or very p*ssed!

GIA got it right and was consistent with themselves. That''s what I see in this story. As to quality of the diamond - specs look pretty nice. For resale value check the pricescope database for equivilant diamonds and subtract about 20% if you''re looking to sell on the private market.
