New fan design with no blades

I just recently saw these at Best Buy and while the technology is very cool, I can't imagine paying THAT much money for a fan! It seems the only real reason to buy one is for the "cool" factor...both literally and figuratively :)

The nerd/engineer in my is so tempted to get one. It is just too incredible!

My MIL saw one in a salon and said it was very cool.

They were on display at John Lewis a couple of weeks ago, with their stunning price tags, right next to the normal fans with the normal price tags. People were intrigued, and it was really fun to put my hand through it and around it and feel the air blowing without seeing how it works, but there's no way l'd pay what they're asking for a fan, no matter how neat it is.

I've seen these in Bed, Bath, and Beyond. And yes, pricey!

I just heard about these the other day. I'm definitely intrigued. But I'm also a bit broke at the moment so no $300 fan for Callisto.

DH lusts after the Dyson fan thingy. I think they're cool, but way too expensive.

Has anyone noticed how expensive fans are in general?

The bigger size is new, but the dyson fan is not new.

Sooo cool! I love that you can't feel the buffering. I didn't know that this bothered other people anyways. One day when it's cheaper, I may have to see if I can finally sleep with a fan on me.

Does it make noise like a regular fan? We have a big fan going at night for the white noise but I don't like the air blowing on me so I have to aim it away. For the price right now, I think I'll have to stick w/what I got.

One youtube video I saw about it said it makes about the same amount of noise as a conventional fan.

Saying there are no blades are not quite true; the are just built into the base.
The top functions as a fancy-shaped tube that directs the air coming from the fan in the base.

Ahhh, I see, thanks. I'll have to sit this new fangled technology out until it's cheaper, but still, it's a great idea!

That fan makes me want to be an engineer working for Dyson!
