On Saturday I was able to go in and see the wax model for my new 6.59 ct. Emerald Cut diamond with trapezoid side stones (.50 tw.). I hope you can get a good idea for how it will look from these pictures! Because of the fragile nature of the wax, I wasn't able to put it on my finger and the jeweler was afraid to put the traps in for fear the wax would break! But I was able to see the center stone placed inside! It looks much more delicate in person.
The double prongs will be spread slightly apart and they will be claw style.
Thoughts please?? :kiss2:

Thank you soooo much, @diamondseeker2006, @Nikki1415 and @dkata! I didn't expect to see a wax so soon - and I was thinking of making some changes with the trapezoids, but I think it will be ok as it is...?? So hard to know! Thanks for your support! :)

I’m really not an expert, but I can visualize things quite well. I think the side stones have a good proportion to the center stone, the whole ring looks really balanced.
Don’t worry too much, enjoy the process!

It looks awesome!!

I think the trapezoids are angled well and the perfect size, the main stone will be at the center of attention. I can't wait to see the pics of the finished ring!

I love it! And I definitely think the smaller trapezoids are going to make your gorgeous stone at centerstage. I am waiting on pins and needles until I see this thing done!

Really pretty. Are you ok with the size of the under gallery box (it would be a donut in a round)? Will it work with your wedding band?

Hi, @rockysalamander! Thanks for your comments! I was hoping the box would be smaller, actually-good point! :geek2: But the ring won't work with my wedding band anyway, since it's a wide band. I wear it by itself now. But Sophie, my jeweler, has suggested that I could wear it with a narrow baguette band and she showed me an example she has in the store, with her ring which is a large 3-stone.
I have some straight baguettes and small rounds that she recently removed from an old ring of mine. We talked about making a band with them down the road, so that might be an option.
Since the stone is big, it would probably be too much to wear a large band with it, so I think it will be a stand-alone ring unless I pair it with a small band. :kiss2:

@rockysalamander, I meant to ask you, do you think the rectangular "doughnut" is too big or not the best shape for the ring? Please feel free to be honest! I appreciate the input and advice!
Thanks, again, for taking the time and making your opinions known! I am very grateful! :)

I don't really have an aesthetic opinion. But, we had a poster a few months back who had a square lower gallery this and ended up getting the ring re-made as it was too big. I can't tell from your wax, so it was just a head's up to consider.

There was a good discussion and pictures in that thread. Maybe another member can recall the link. @whitewave @Matthews1127 @diamondseeker2006 @tyty333

If not, I'll look after work for you. But, the gallery that would be totally flush was more like this where the prongs arch back to the shank rather than ending at square-donut.

I may have missed it but are you planning on wearing a wedding band with the ring. This could easily be a stand alone ring but what are your plans?

It’s stunning!!!
I love the donut shape, but I would make it a bit smaller if feasible

Stunning. But as others have pointed out, if you want a wedding ring to sit flush against the ring, the under gallery has to have enough height off your finger to fit one under. And if you intend to pair a diamond eternity ring, you’ll need even more height off your finger.
Otherwise you have to have “shaped” rings made to fit around the base of your engagement ring.
Can’t wait.

Hi! Now that I am on to the CAD phase... wondering why you went with double prongs? I need to think about all this and we are having such a similar setting. Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing. I cannot remember the member, at the moment, either, @rockysalamander, I even would entertain the idea of tapering the prongs back into a small box shape, rather than the larger rectangle. It will create room, and still sit low to the finger.....

Hi, @Emeraldsaremyfavorite! I just love the double claw look on EC's!! I like the look of the slight split and the hug around the corners! When I thought of doing a three stone ring, I right away asked for double claws.
It was a no-brainer for me-maybe the only detail that I didn't agonize over! Lol!
By the way, @Matthews1127, @rockysalamander, @Bron357, @Acinom, @Starfacet and @tyty333, I'm so sorry I didn't see your messages until today!!! My basket will not be as rectangular as it appeared on the CADS. I asked about that and I was assured that the prongs will curve under the stone and that the rectangular doughnut will be smaller and more delicate. There will be space to wear a narrow eternity band with it if I want to. I have several loose straight baguettes and round stones that I've taken out of an older ring that I may make into a band someday. Thank you for your ideas and comments! I'm hoping to have my ring in a few weeks. I made some small changes, including choosing slightly larger traps, so it's taking a bit longer than I expected!
@Emeraldsaremyfavorite, I love your Jean Dousset concept ring! Yes, our rings will be very similar! I'm so excited! I love the melee on the band of your ring-to-be! I'm doing a plain platinum band because my Steven Kirsch pear shaped ring (his Lux) is covered completely in melee so I wanted to make this ring very traditional and simple for a change. But I think you're making a terrific choice and I'm very happy and excited for you! I can't wait to see how it turns out! Who will make your ring for you? :kiss2:

@Blingalingaling I think the double prongs will look especially good on your diamond because it is so large!! I’m on pins and needles until it’s done:lol: I am not sure if I should do a band with my setting, I think I’m going to start a new thread soon and ask for advice, have a great day and please update with any new news!

Seriously???’!!
Major 6.59 envy:love:

It is going to be gorgeous.

I cannot wait to see this finished ring! I love the proportions of the side stones with the enormous center stone.
