I would love your opinions.

So I have already purchased one dress and I don''t have any good pictures of it. It is strapless and ivory satin with an empire waist and drops to the ground- it is very pretty, but I did not originally want strapless. The dress I love love (puffy heart love)loved was $3,000 and I just couldn''t go there.

Well, Saturday morning I was looking online for spring clothes and options for the reception outfit and this is what I found. I think I am in love. It is so similar to the $3,000 and only $295!!!!! Silk, with straps and has the sexy simple look I was hoping for.

Here are the pics. I am trying it on this week (they have to order it into the store).

What do you think?

That dress is stunning!!!! I hope you love it as much (or more!) when you try it on!!!

Oh it''s beautiful Janna!

I LOVE that dress. I ordered it from J Crew as well and it is hanging in my closet as a contender. I loved the fit, and the only thing that made me hesitate is that it is a little bit more low-cut than I was going for. Otherwise - the back and the sweep train are gorgeous! I can''t wait to hear what you think.

OH!!! That''s from JCrew''s wedding collection! I had my eye on a number of their dresses, especially the Sophia.
I LOVED that they were so simple, classic, and elegant.
You have nothing to lose by calling JCrew up and talking to one of their wedding dress specialists. They were extremely helpful, answered all my questions and sent fabric samples. I was kinda worried about the fabric- that it would be too thin. I ended up with an Alfred Angelo dress. I have a curvy figure, and thought that I needed a bit more "support".

GOOD LUCK!

Very pretty, but I agree you need smaller/firmer boobs to pull that dress off and still look classy. It would make me way to nervous.

hehehe get some duct tape ready!!

janna, make sure to wear some high heels with you to the try-on session, that kind of style is most flattering with a taller form which you can achieve with heels!! keep us posted.

Some double sided tape is mandatory to wear that beauty...Otherwise, folks will see more of you than perhaps you intended! Lovely dress though...good for you!

Beautiful dress...as long as the ''girls'' are under control. Nobody wants to see the bride''s you-know-whats flying around at the wedding!!!

Thanks for the opinions.

I am excited to try it on. The good thing is that my "girls" are pretty small- we''re talking barely a b on a good day. If I love it, I plan on having it tailored to fit well on top and possibly an extra layer sewn into the top portion. A friend of mine did that to her wedding dress. We are getting married in Mendocino, so it won''t exactly be...ummm...warm if you know what I mean.

I plan on taking the heels for the try on session.

Do you girls recommend spanx for the under garments? A have never worn them before.

Hey Madeilene- What were you planning to wear "under" it?

Thanks Abliocco and Lizzie! I have a good feeling about it- I just need to see it on and possibly stop eating for the next 3 months!!!

That dress looks gorgeous! So classy & sexy--I love it! That''s a good idea about having it tailored to fit perfectly on top.

Please post pics of yourself in the dress when it arrives!

What a beauty!

Gotta look around for an evening dress, and I think halters are winning. Haven''t had one in a while... for the reason you mention here. If you make the halter tighter, the seamstress should also be able to close a bit of the cleavage. Fingers crossed!

If I decide this dress is the one (and I like it better than a lot of the more expensive formal dresses I''ve tried, hands down!) I will probably have it altered to be a tiny bit tighter and better fit on top, and take a layer of very sheer fabric to follow the V of the neckline about 1/2-3/4 of an inch along the original neckline. Does that make sense? I only wear a B-C too, but it was still a little bit deep (although not revealing.) Let me know what you think!

As for what to wear "under the dress" - I don''t know! I don''t think that anything goes very well as a bra.... Maybe those sticky things? What were you thinking?

Sorry, if I''d been thinking I would have put all my thoughts into one post!

What are you thinking for hair/veil? It''s such a simple dress, I was thinking no veil? Just flowers and a great updo?

A slightly loose updo with a few gentle curls of hair falling from it to skim your back and maybe your sholder. Hmm, maybe some ivory flowers tucked into the updo?
I agree, it''s not really a veil-y type of dress.

Btw, thanks for reminding us of j.crew.

Wren - that''s EXACTLY what I was thinking! Hoping to get my hair long enough to do it! It''s shoulder length now, so hopefully I can get it to keep on growing before fall!

I have already bought a veil, but I like the flowers idea too.
My current veil is ivory, 2 tier, simple and only elbow length.
I will take it with me to the trying on session and take pictures and you can let me know what you think.
I am definitely going for a half up half down tendrilly curl look (DF request).

A friend of mine had a low dress very similar to this and she bought a few of the adhesive bras, cut a good v-secret bra and used the adhesive to stick it in the right places and then double stick taped the dress to her body. She said it was perfect and that she danced, sweated, etc. and the bra stayed in place.

She also recommended the flesh colored nipple petals.

But I think I am going to talk to the seamstress about adding a thin layer of addition fabric to the top portion and place a cup into the fabric, then I can double stick tape and wear the petals and be free from the nipple pictures. :)

I also think I might try some spanx just for the security in looking thinner. Another friend of mine recommended something called "higher power" anyone heard of it?

wren and mad- my hair is really long- as in middle of my back, past the bra long...
So picture Kathryn McPheever curls with a center updo and a veil pinned into it...

Hello!

Ahh yes the Jcrew dress -- this was my front-runner for a long time :) The good news is that if you order it from the store and have it delivered there, the shipping is free and Jcrew is really great about returns. I tried on some similar silk dresses at Nicole Miller (they have this and other similar styles -- definitely worth checking out! They are also about the same price) but they just didn''t flatter my body shape. The salesperson at Nicole Miller on Sunset (her name is Annie and she''s super cool) mentioned that with silk dresses you have to either be in perfect shape and/or wear the proper undergarments (i.e. spanx) so you don''t look lumpy. :P
