I am looking at buying an engagement ring and need some help. im not too crazy into diamonds so i just want to make sure im not getting "taken" into something i dont want/need.

I want a 1 carat stone, and would really love to get an ideal cut (ive seen the difference between 2 of my friends'' rings and really can see the better cut giving bigger sparkle and flash)

i want to say that i have seen the ones i like at JARED, they are called PEERLESS DIAMONDS. They are graded by AGS as "triple 000" and also graded very highly by Gemex. I have been looking at them for a while now, and just found one that was very rare, the first one 1 carat peerless i had seen that was above an SI grading; The one i have on hold is:

1.10 CT
H color
VS2 clarity
Price = $7200

First off, does this sound about right for the price?
Second, i hear that different grading companies are better than others (i.e. AGS is better than IGI). Is AGS really the best company, and are they truly the only ones who can REALLY call a diamond IDEAL CUT with their TRIPLE 0 GRADING.

Please, any information you can provide would be great.

AGS is great, but Jared's has horrible customer service and their peerless diamonds are no different than any other AGS 0 stones on the market, but Jared's stones are usually overpriced.

use the SEARCH BY CUT function above, under PRICES, and you will find others that fit the bill that are probably cheaper. Also, check Good Old Gold and Whiteflash who both carry a large selection of AGS0 stones.

I just did a quick check on Whiteflash''s website and there are a number of stones that are nicer than yours (color wise) AND cheaper.

I agree with neatfreak that the Peerless is overpriced. If you still want to go the B&M route, go to non-chain type jewellery stores that sells diamonds with AGS certs.

NF,
I''m sure you meant no offense

but higher color grade doesn''t equal "nicer".

Not at all, I meant simply that in terms of buying/selling diamonds, with all else being equal, higher colors are more expensive. I was comparing only AGS0 stones, so I assume that they are all well cut. So I was just saying that there are ones with better specs (according to the diamond industry at least) for less $ meaning that the one from Jared isn't a great deal.

Not trying to offend those who love slightly warmer colors!
