I''ve selected a setting (Tacori 2620 round w/ pave band) & just started looking at loose stones. After to a visit to a local jeweler I narrowed it down to two stones, which I think look great in person, however I''m a little worried that the EGL "Ideal" is not an actual ideal cut after browsing this site & reading that the EGL is a little more lenient than GIA. Are these a good buy for the price? Would love any advice on these two stones....

Also, the EGL #s I copied down from the front of the certificates are not coming up on either the EGL USA or EGL International verification sites. Any idea why this would be? (Both #''s start with 924, maybe I copied down the wrong #?)

Stone #1
1.01, S1I, I
$3,898
Table: 55%
Depth: 62.6%
Crown Angle: 34.9
Pavilion Angle: 41.5
Pavilion: 44.1%
Polish & Sym: both Very Good
Florescence: Faint
Cut: EGL Ideal, Hearts & Arrows

Stone #2
1.02, VS2, I
$3,998
Table: 58%
Depth: 60.90%
Crown: 13%
Pavilion: 44.60%
Polish & Sym: both Very Good
Florescence: Faint
Cut: not listed?

these are too deep, look for something closer to 43%.

Yap, much too deep.

Hi san fran

With the first diamond you do not want a pavilion angle that steep, in an I colour it will show more warmth and there are other undesirable effects with a pavilion angle so steep.
EGL uses percents for crown and pavilion, I would look at GIA or AGS graded diamonds if possible and look for pavilion angles with these between 40.6 and 41 degrees coupled with a suitable crown angle of 34- 35 degrees. Keep depths from 60 - 62% or a little over, more and you can lose face up size.

Also I doubt the first diamond shows hearts and arrows as we know them to be here, if you want a h&a diamond then consider the branded h&a diamonds if that is important to you.
