I just picked up a copy of the slick magazine "Facets". And, oh my gosh, there is a full page ad for the Kotlar Cushion Diamond. Do yourself a favor and check out their website. www.harrykotlar.com . Are there any vendors here that can get this? Someone more computer savy than myself, might post a few pics. Go see, then tell us what you think.

It's beautiful!

Which cut do you guys think has more bling This new cushion or an Original Radiant cut?

somebody post pics for me, pretty please.

I think it's the new cushion that would have more bling...but then again, i don't care for radiant!

Isn't this close (if not the same thing) with the H&A cushion that Jonathan mentioned? Another new cushion cut has recently been put up by the makers of Crisscut (same appears in Tiffany's Legacy rings)... so there is no shortage of branded cushion cuts

It might pay to investigate, I would think.

I am really having a hard time making up my mind between a cushion and a radiant. I like rectangle "ish" shapes, but I want some bling and flash. Cushions seem to have larger facets and (to me) less flash. But the radiants sometimes look like a pile of crushed glass. I have yet to see a nice one. If these new cushions have more flash and scintilation (sp), then that just might be the ticket. I am looking for a stone around 3-3.5cts. So this is a big purchase and of course has to be "the one". Kotlar's cushion is the only branded cushion I am aware of. Are there others? And I am trying to find something that does not exist - by trying to find a "hybrid" radiant/cushion? Beth

I love the new cushion! It's so great! But I think a comparison of the new cushion (or any cushion) and a radiant just isn't fair...

To me, they have entirely different looks. The cushion is more a antique look (could be set with a modern twist), and is softer and more like an elogated round...whereas the radiant has truly a different look (weather rect or box) and the sparkles from both the cuts are totally different as well. i have yet to see this new brilliant cut with my own eyes, but the regular cushion has chunkier sparkles like a round, and usually has more fire and scintillation and slightly less brilliance, compared to a radiant.

Again, try them both on to see which you favor, and of course the setting is key to figure out which will be the stone of choice...I have some settings that I would absolutely NOT use a radiant, even though I love them, so always consider the look you want, and the setting that would accomodate such stones...

In the end, your eyes will let you know which stone is for you...But that cushion cut is delicious!!! Just had to put in my $.04 about the radiant being in a category by itself...It's mystery and constant change of small crystal-like sparkles, honestly still keeps me in awe for hours when i stare at mine!!!

By no means

It is not very hard to track down the ocasional "hybrid" - usually cushion with the corners a bit less rounded and typical radiant cut pavilion. These may be called either cushion, or barion or radiant... However, I would expect a yellow diamond (like THIS), not a colorless one to appear with such a cut, and there is no way to locate them unless by seeing some pictures or launching an order for such a piece.

Talking of diamond brands

How about the Regent? That looks like a cushion to me, if anything does.

Did you find the specs of this cut anywhere? The poster kid stones look quote deep - more like old than modern cuts
