Gwenyth Paltrow and Chris MArtin had a baby boy over the weekend, they named him Moses Martin.

Can''t celebraties give their children ''normal'' names???

I know a few Moses'' they are all Jewish, because it is still a traditional name, I don’t think that is a bad name. But I could have sworn she was a gentile...hmm.

honestly one of the things i will be sure to think about when we are naming future kids (or rather IF)....is as we are choosing, to make sure we are NOT giving future evil schoolmates the easiest opening to make fun of our kid's names!! parents NEVER think of that when they are 'getting creative'. and what about having to learn to spell your name and THEN do cursive with your name??

Penn from Penn & Teller named his daughter Moxie Crimefighter.. I kid you not. I watched a whole show on tv of ''celebrities'' who named thier children the most insane things.. Like, Rein Bow and Pilot Aviator (or something incredibly close to that). OR KAL EL.. like Nic Cage.. moron. I''m sure his son will appreciate being Superman when he grows up...


They have just wayy too much time on thier hands. lol

I think the name was actually Pilot Inspektor (with a K too), which is the child of Jason Lee and Beth Reisgraf.. Celebrities try way too hard. Can you imagine the torture these kids will go through??? Why don''t parents think of that when choosing names?

times change and so do popular names. moses was a popular name at one time outside the jewish community as were many other ''biblical'' names. and it wasn''t limited to ''biblical'' names either: i had a great uncle named ''Colonel'' ! seemed odd to me but for the day and time he was born in, it wasn''t odd at all.

i for one was rather glad to have a distinct name rather than one that was on the lips of every other kid in my class. for example, there were 5 Linda''s in one class: one was Linda N., another was known as Linda B, another was known as Linda S., well you get the picture.

i also think people are returning to older names and descriptives for names for their children.

ps even i think some are extremely odd........but i bet Penn wants his daughter to grow up and be that "Moxie Crimefighter"..... for those who have yet to name a child, i wish you luck!

Not my choice, but biblical names have always been classics.

I think worse than having schoolyard kids making fun of your name is having the whole darned world making fun of the name you choose to name your baby.

One of my girlfriends, whom I adore, named her son Storm (he was born last year)...It actually grew on me, and he''ll be a big ol'' kid, so no one will mess with him...she''s pg again and tossed around Talon for the next boy & I nixed that!

Then we have Phinnaeus, Hazel, Apple, Coco (not bad IMO), Roman, etc..

i''m a rebel..I named my son Jake. Just Jake. No Jacob, Jakob etc....just plain ol'' Jake.

And I call my husband "Moses" by the way. (his name is Steve) We saw a play & a character was saying he''d be like "moses" but he had such an inflection in his voice, that the whole night we kept saying "MOW-SES!"...so now, by way of default, I call him moses...this has been going on for 6 years now.

I''m a Jeannine, and at 35, I''m still spelling my damn name out for all...no one can pronounce it if they see it written down... jah-neen. Oh well....that''s why I have Just Jake. LOL

Moses isn''t that weird. I know a little Moses. It''s the next step after all those Calebs and Jacobs and Ethans and Samuels. I bet there will be tons of Moseses in the next five years. And at least it''s a name, unlike some of the nonsense people inflict on their kids.

Holy Moses!!! Another celeb controversy. One would think that these hollywood offspring would get beat up or teased at school when they''re older. However, when your classmates are named for cartoon characters,fruit, and superheros, I guess they''ll be safe in the schoolyard.

BTW, Demi''s kids names come from Rumer Goddard, a childrens author I used to read as a child. I think she''s English. Scout is the main character from the book and movie ''To Kill a Mockingbird'' and Tallulah is named after Tallulah Bankhead, an early screen actress.

I don''t think Moses is that bad..especially compared to Apple.
I have a friend with a little boy named Moses (and they are not Jewish, but they are Christians) and they call him Mo. He''s adorable.

See the difference being that Rhubarb is actually pretty cute and you can shorten it to Rhu (thinking of Roo from Whinny the Pooh)...but Apple? Hey Jake that's our boy name if/when we have one
