I have been working with Whiteflash and they have been nothing but a pleasure during the whole process. I am just about ready to pull the trigger on an 82 pointer ACA G VS2 that I have on hold with them. I went to their site this weekend and saw that they added new stones to their inventory and noticed that their AGSL certs now have a dual light map, that shows a generated ASET of hearts from the pavillion angle.

The stone that I have on hold has an older cert that does not have this view. Will this negatively affect the resale value in the future? Also, will this feature devalue branded H & A stones, now that a hearts and arrows view will be standard on the AGSL certificates?

Here is a link to the information regarding the new certificates https://www.whiteflash.com/about-di...re-on-ags-laboratory-diamond-reports-1172.htm

Here are a couple of stones that are using the cert:

I don't see how it can negatively affect resale of a stone without that image. If a stone is an AGS Ideal cut, it'll always be so, right? Having that comp. generated hearts view is only another bit of useful information. I've seen stones with 2006 AGS reports that are still expensive, and those old reports have nothing on them. Just more reassurance?

I think you're pretty much set with your ACA, and you know that too! I wouldn't sweat that extra image on it. :wavey:

It is still a generated image and not an actual image so it will have the same problems as the ASET images on the report.

To answer the main question.
I don't think it will affect resale value in my opinion.

Purests and those with a desire for the best will still demand an actual image.
I can see this helping drop shippers but there will still be an up market for those diamonds with actual images and premium reputations combined with higher levels of customer service.

Predicting the future is difficult but anyone who has an AGS light performance report (The one they call 'platinum' as well as the previous versions of that) can upgrade to this new format for a modest fee and without the need to send in the stone for a new inspection. I'm sure the Whiteflashers can arrange to get you one if you want. Presumably any future price affect for lack of the report will be less than the cost of simply ordering the report. Frankly, I wouldn't expect even that.

I wouldn't actually agree with the statement above that once an AGS-0, always an AGS-0. They changed the rules in 2005. A whole bunch of ideals suddenly became something else and a bunch of things that wouldn't have been ideal in 2004 became included in the grade. The stones themselves remain unchanged but the grade DID change. It's entirely possible, probable even, that this will happen again some day. Diamond cut grading is an advancing science and there are smart people at AGSL working hard every day to push this envelope.
