hi!
35.gif

my anjolique is supposed to be in sometime this week so i''m starting to think about bustle, crinoline options, etc. what did you do for yours? it was suggested at the shop that i do a double french bustle which looked pretty, but i''m not sure if it would be too complicated for my mom/sister to figure out. what did you wear under yours for the skirt? did you add anything for volume, or kept it pretty sleek? also, what kinds of alterations did you have to get done and were they expensive?

sorry for the overload, i''m just anxious/excited!

thanks

Isn''t waiting for your dress so nerve-wracking?! I remember when I ordered mine in September. Hearing that it wouldn''t get here until January was almost like a death sentence!

Can you post a link to your dress? It might be easier to give advice on a bustle/crinoline/etc.

haha it is a little nerve wrecking! honestly i just sort of kept thinking it''s ''forever away'' until this weekend i realized that she had said it would be in the first week in july! (so she says anyways!)

here''s a link to the dress. NewEnglandLady had the same dress so i''m curious to see/hear what she did!

Oof! Hel-LO gorgeous!

I also had a mermaid-type dress and I didn''t add any extra crinoline. I felt that would make my legs look shorter if the bottom poofed out any more. I can''t really comment on alterations - DH''s aunt has been a seamstress for over 50 years so she did my alterations for free. Sadly, mine had to be taken out. Darn stress eating nearly drove me out of my dress!

As for the bustle, mine had a simple French bustle, but with that, the double would look divine! Just make sure your mom and/or sister go with you for your final fitting. That way, they''ll both know how to fix it if one is busy at the time.

aww thanks everlong! i saw your pictures and you looked so beautiful on your wedding day! and i LOVED your dress!

i know that i definitely don''t *have* to add any poufiness, but i am want to get as much of it as i can out of the dress haha. plus, if i can lift it enough, i might not have to hem it!

i think a double french bustle would be pretty, but i''ve never seen one before and i''m not sure how it would look with the dress being relatively tight around my butt, ya know? might be a bit *too* much?

Hey, Mimzy!

I''m so excited for you, you''re going to be so happy when you''re dress comes in!

Sorry I didn''t see your post!

1. I didn''t wear crinoline--I tried one on in the boutique and just preferred it without any. There is a single layer of crinoline, then a layer of silk, then a layer of tulle all under the dress, so I felt like there was probably enough volume under there. I didn''t want to change the shape.

2. I did a french bustle as well, but I believe there were only 8 bustles? I don''t have any pics on this computer, but there might be some pics in an old post. I originally thought I would bustle the dress up where that detailing is on the back, but a french bustle looked better.

3. For alterations I had the bust taken in (A LOT, haha), the bustle added, the hem, the hips taken in...I htink that''s it. Becausue of all the beading on the bust which she had to take off and hand sew back on, it was expensive for me. I think it was around $600 (after getting quotes from 3 seamstresses)? I don''t think your dress will be that much at all, the sample looked fantastic on you, so I can''t imagine there are that many changes.

I can''t wait to see photos from your fittings!! Yay!!

thanks for replying NEL!!

wow, $600!!! well it was totally worth it for you because you looked so pretty and fabulous. hopefully i won''t have to have anything taken in (or OUT). i''m still not sure about the crinoline...i guess i''ll see what it looks like when i go to have my fittings. thanks again!

Your dress is gorgeous!!! I would agree with a simple french bustle and you should be set! At your last fitting, the seamstress should be able to easily show your mom/sister how to do it...

I also got a sample in my size and only needed it hemmed... and it was over $300!! We were a little surprised, but what can you do once you have already fallen in love with the dress! I think the hemming was ~200 and the bustle was another $100 or so...

I wouldn''t do anything underneath, but it''s totally up to you... at the shop I got my dress they were BEGGING me to try on a crinoline/slip thing and I kept refusing, mostly because I am getting married in JULY and I don''t want any more layers!! Good luck with your dress! :)
