Hi,
I''m a first time diamond shopper and have been searching for a couple of months now. I think I have recently found the one. It''s a G SI1 with AGS 0 cut grade. My only concern is that it has negligible fluorescence. Should I be concerned about this? Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks!

There are lots of people who post here , who actually prefer fluorescence in their diamonds (like med or even strong)...but even for Old School people who were apparently trained that fluoro was a negative thing, negligible or faint is a non issue, I think.....some stones are marked down in price for stronger fluoro at times, but negligible or faint shouldn''t have an impact .....(on looks or price/value).....
At least that''s what I have picked up in educating myself....the pros may see it differently..

hey ramster13! welcome to ps!

to answer your question, no you shouldn''t be concerned about negligible fluorescence. it will be undectable at most.

Exactly, as said above, my fiancee''s rock is a "negligible flourescence," and I don''t notice an iota of flouresecence under any lighting conditions (incandescnet, flourescent, natural light, etc.) Don''t let it bother you, esp if that is the only thing yanking on your chain!

My understanding (others can correct me if I''m wrong) is that AGS doesn''t give a grade of "none" for fluoro anymore. They used to call it "inert" which you might see on some AGS certs from a few years ago, but they stopped this grade b/c all diamonds have at least some fluoro.

In other words, their best ranking is "negligible," so you can''t do better than that!

Here is a link to a very interesting study by GIA re: fluoresence. I too was once skeptical of fluoresence, but having seen some stones with it, I actually prefer it! So much so in fact that I chose my new D color BECAUSE of it''s strong fluoresence! It is not at all hazy or milky, as some note can happen with VERY strong fluoresence, but as the GIA noted in this study those stone are very few and far between anyway. I love the slightly light blue color the stone takes on in bright sunlight (and maybe I''m just wanting to see it, as others I have asked don''t see it at all). Fluoresence is not a bad thing... and as was pointed out, negligible is as good as it gets with AGS!

Negligible flourescence in a G is nothing to worry about!!

Thanks so much for all the help!!

I figured I might as well post the dimensions for the diamond I was talking about and see what you guys had to say. Again, I''m just a first time buyer, but it seems to me that this is a great diamond.

1.32 G SI1 Round Brilliant
7.06 - 7.10 x 4.35
Crown Ang 34.9, %=15.5
Pav Ang 40.8, %=43.0
Depth % = 61.4
Table % = 55
Girdl = 0.6-1.4 facetted

AGS 0 cut grade

Any opinion would be helpfull.

Thanks again!

Based on the numbers it's likely that you're right. It should be a very high performer. Have you seen it?

Nope, haven''t gotten a chance to see it yet. Hoping to see it soon though.

What would you say is a good price for a stone like this? I''m just curious to see if I''m getting a good deal (I think I am, but no harm in asking).

Thanks again

What price are they asking for this stone??

You can conduct a search here to get an idea of what stones with top cut quality that match your considered attributes are selling for.

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo-a non-issue
