Needle and Pinpoint on VVS2 RB?

Hi,

I''ve looked at a VVS2 diamond that is 1.27 carats with a needle and a pinpoint in the table at the 10 o''clock position.

Will these inclusions be problematic?

Do they structurally weaken the stone as some feathers might? No.

Will they be visible without magnification? No.

Will they raise the price of a diamond compared to other, also eye-clean, clarities like VS1 and VS2? Yes.

For a given budget will VVS2 reduce the size of a diamond compared to other, also eye-clean, clarities like VS1 and VS2? Yes

Will they make the diamond, and what it represents, less pure compared to a flawless diamond? Not to most people, but to some people yes.

Personally I like and buy VVS diamond because I don't like inclusions and I want one or two tiny inclusion so I can identify my stone.

Many educated people here like an eye-clean SI1 or SI2 since it allows the largest diamond possible.

I am assuming you saw the inclusions on the inclusion plot rather than in the diamond itself. VVS2 is almost impossible to see with the naked eye or 10x loupe.

Kenny, I am RIGHT there with you!!! My pear is a VVS2 and I have eagle eyes! I didnt want a stone that I''d look all day long trying to find the inclusions. in the VVS range, i know its not visible so I just enjoy my stone instead

I cannot see any inclusions in my VS1 with a 10x loupe, so you are certainly totally safe with any VVS2.

VVS2 is extremely unlikely to cause any issues, whether you mean "eye clean" or whether you're worried about weak points in the stone.
VVS2 is definitely eye clean, unless someone at the gem lab made a terrible mistake.
I seek out diamonds with VS1/VS2 clarity and I'd be happy to buy most VS2's without inspecting them for inclusions.

I have rarely seen a VVS2 diamond as problematic, other then the possibilty that it could be a VS1. Very small needles are common in VVS2 diamonds and if it was plotted under the table I''m sure it doesn''t reflect and is barely visible at 10 power as a needle. If you want a VVS2, I would not worry about it.

No, you have nothing to worry about. Just to mention if you are concerned about chipping or damage, even flawless diamonds can chip or break with an unlucky and or hard blow, make sure you have all risk insurance, wear with care and enjoy.

1. Does the position of the needed impact the clarity grade? So, in the case of this diamond, would the diamond have been graded VVS1 if it wasn''t for the fact that the needle is located on the table?

2. Can the needle be a colour other than white?
