Hi,

I've been reading your posts for few days and I think that you could be a huge help for me choosing my perfect ring.

First of all, I do not know a lot about diamonds, and when I see a picture of a ring that I like, I'm not able to describe it with the right words, and I'm french, so I'll do my best !

So, I have an idea of what I want, It's a delicate oval halo or maybe a double halo depending on my budget which is around $10 000, could be a bit more but not outrageously more.

I like good coverage on the finger, I'm a size 5. But I can't get a 2 carats with my budget...

I'm in love with the side of this ring and especially with the thin band.

I love that halo.
How many carats do you think it is ?
What kind of pavement is it ? It's so delicate, just how I like.

And I love the specifications of this diamond, could you help me find out the specifications ?

So, I think that my ring could be a mix of all of this, with your precious help, I hope that I can decide on something !

Thank you so much for you help and sorry for my wrong language.

Any help please ?

A double halo is likely to blow most of your budget so I would try to get the largest oval I can find and set it in a delicate single halo setting. Very few benches can make such a delicate halo and all those tend to be expensive custom handforged benches that charge $5K and upwards for the setting alone. You might be able to get a well done CAD/cast halo setting for $3K, which leaves you $7K for a 1 ct oval diamond.

Thank you so much for your reply !

I actually don't not the pro and cons of a CAD/cast halo setting so I'm going to research this.

What do you think of the oval diamond on the picture ? Is it a colorless diamond ? And what kind of clarity is it ? I try to find out on the web, but it's not easy when you don't know anything about diamond...

Thank you again.

Generally speaking, the more delicate the halo, the more expensive the setting. I have a CAD round halo from BE (formerly ERD) and it's very delicate (I can share a pic if you'd like). The setting will likely run you around 3-4K leaving you about 6k for the center stone. There are lots of members here that can help you find a stone that gives you the most bang for your buck, so hopefully someone will chime in (and you may want to start another thread in regards to a stone search based on some of your specific criteria).

There's no way to tell from an image what the exact size, color, and clarity of a stone might be - some folks might be able to guess, but rather than focusing on that, you might be better served focusing on finding a stone that's right for you (as opposed to one in a picture).

Oh yes please share your picture. I need to compare the different settings.

You are right, I will focus on my diamond research and show you my selection.

Actually I think this double halo from James Allen is a nice double halo. They have an even cheaper version but I wouldn't go that route.
And considering how expensive a nice halo is, I dont think this is too much. I also think it would give you a lot of finger coverage on your small hands.

It says it costs extra to do an oval, but their extra fee is typically only 150. Typically.

Anyways, let me see what kind of stone you could get with the difference.

And here are some ovals that James Allen has in budget

Love this one

I'm a fan of this one if its eye clean, I see the inclusion, but being clear and the type of faceting on an oval, maybe it isn't obvious at normal viewing size.

Eta: with these, if you ask them to apply a "preferred members " discount, you'd be right about at your budget with a platinum halo

This is a cushion, but a pretty oval-ish cushion , so it would give you a sense of the ring

Aaand ill stop blowing you up

This is their cheaper of the two double halo settings they have, not the one I linked to you. Here's an example of a 1ct oval on a smaller finger with a double halo. It turned out quite lovely. Even with the less expensive setting.

This ring is beautiful but does not have the "delicate" setting I have mind. And when I have something in mind, it is a nightmare...
So this is a CAD/Cast setting if I understand ?

Yes I had a feeling the cheaper setting is one you wouldn't want, it was just more to show the finger coverage of a 1 ct oval double halo

That original picture you posted LailaR is probably at least 2 carats. Maybe bigger.

Here is a link to a 1 carat oval (without a halo) so you can see the approximate size.

I think that's what I needed, just see a 1 ct diamond naked. 2 carats is not the same price. OMG ! I will never have my dreamt ring.

many of us have to adjust our expectations when first shopping for an engagement ring.
understand that the internet, including PS, is flooded with huge diamonds. The real world is not. Or, you can buy the biggest diamond you can find now, most likely about a 1.5, and save up for your setting down the road.

There's a reason it's called a dream ring - most of us cannot get it all at once. Focus on getting the best cut and biggest diamond you can for your budget. Then save up and get the double halo setting for an anniversary celebration.

Actually I'm already married. I had a first diamond solitaire upgraded to a tiffany solest replica 3 years ago. But I've lost a diamond of the setting 2 times. The jeweler is ok to change the ring so I'm working on this new ring !

I wanted to upgrade again, we have the money, but my husband doesn't want spend all that money on a ring. Maybe he is right. I would go for a 2 carat diamond to get my dream ring but is it really necessary ?! I just don't know.

I know that many american ladies have beautiful rings, but in France, it's not common to spend the money on a rock. I just don't know what to do...

Here is my halo you asked me to share. It's not hand-forged, but it's still very delicate.

Here's another one from a different angle (and with different wedding bands)

Absolutely gorgeous !

What are the specifications ?!

My center stone is 1.5 carats - my ring size is only 4.25

Do you have a picture of the underside ?

No, sorry.

Sounds to me the ring isn't the problem, the jeweler is.

You should not work with that jeweler again.

?

OP
If you like MomHappys ring, then get in touch with Chris at Brilliantly Engaged (formerly ERD).
Its a beautiful ring, so beautiful, that they did the same one for my wife

Absolutely, I know that I shouldn't work with him again. The only reason why I do is that he agreed to take back my ring and make a new one.
But after discussing with my husband, I will take just a diamond so budget is now 10000$ just for the diamond, and I will make the setting later. Our 10th anniversary is in 2 years (it could be a beautiful occasion !)

So, I now need to find the diamond !!!
