Hello all, and thanks for everyone''s help on here. I''ve done a lot of research, and have come up with the following stone which I''ve put on hold. I''ve attached the ASET image. I also have the hearts and arrows image (represented as a H&A diamond), but can''t figure out how to attach more than one image to this post.

Here''s the information:

Round brilliant
1.63 cts
7.48-7.52 X 4.66
G
VS-2
GIA report---Triple Excellent
No Floressence/Cutlet
Debth 62.1
Table 57.0
Crown/Pav Angles 36.0 and 40.6
HCA Score 1.9

Your thoughts, please?

Pretty!!

You''ve found yourself an FIC!! I''ve got one too, and I love it - colours everywhere.

I''m guessing LGF is high enough to prevent any darkness issues under the table, looking at those arrows.

Nice.

You can''t post multiple images in the same post, just do it on different posts.

Can you please tell me what a FIC is?

And, could you please further explain your darkness comment, in lay terms?

Many thanks.

FIC = fiery ideal cut.

It theoretically should be more easy to throw out color lights with that kind of cut.

FIC - firey ideal cut, means that the crown is higher than 35.5 and the pavilion is correspondingly shallow; yours just barely makes that cut. When you have an RB with a high crown and appropriately shallow pavilion, you generally get a diamond that leans more toward dispersion (coloured light return) than bright white return. Ideal FICs are generally a bit deeper, and have smaller tables, than the "cherry" numbers you'll see on this site - the angles WF cuts their H&A ACAs to, for example. Some FICs won't qualify for GIA ex b/c of this total depth - yours, obviously, does

A good FIC read: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/tic-fic-of-hca.24193/

When you've got a high crown and a high total depth, you sometimes need to worry about two other things, neither of which are honestly applicable to your diamond:
1) diamond colour - a K with a 63.5% depth will look more tinted than a K with a 60.5% depth, simply because there's more layers or diamond material to look through.
2) may look dark under the table if the lower halves are too large. Large LGF values make skinny arrows - these are contrast spots, they turn black in real life pictures because they reflect back exactly what's in front of the diamond face-up - a black camera. If LGF is low you'll get thick arrows, which alongside a high crown and borderline pavilion can make the area under the table look dark.

In other words - nothing for you to worry about, that picture looks wonderful

ETA: ditto stone-cold.

both have great numbers.
they'll even look exactly the same size face-up, to a hundredth of a mm.

ETA: there's nothing better about one diamond than the other, so it comes down to which vendor you prefer (return/upgrade policies, instate or not, etc.)

Both look good.

Depends on what you want, H&A or not? Since the FIC stone is cheaper, still heavier and still have the same dimensions as the smaller H&A, I would prefer that.

Ditto Y on the policies too.

. dammit, duplicate

Great thoughts, thanks.

The vendors are JA and IDJ. I''ve read a lot on here about JA, but not much about IDJ. So far IDJ has been very helpful and a pleasure to deal with--very responsive and helpful. Anyone on here have any experiences with them?

Ya, I notice the IDJ''s ASET set up. So far I heard good review about them.

a quick question

are diamonds normally cut with FIC specifications?
i dont normally see diamonds with 36 crown angles...

They are not. FIC proportion means a higher crown height, meaning less of the rough will be available for sawing off for the smaller stone.

They do come up occasionally. The proportions for a fiery ideal cut normally look something like this -

small table ( iro 55%)
crown angle >35.5%
pavilion angle no more than 40.6
depth - sometimes these stones have greater depth and can look small for the weight, this can be a tradeoff with fiery ideal cuts.
