Need your help on which diamond is a better buy

Both excellent round cuts with VS2 clarity.

1st: 0.71 ct, e color, $3500
2nd: 0.76 ct, h color, $2500

Thoughts? I have option on either, I just need to make the call.

You say they're both excellent round cuts, but I'd be interested in seeing photographs, IS images, more detailed stats, whatever else you might have. I'm still a diamond novice (so please correct me, fellow PSers!) but I feel like that is an awfully big price jump for three color grades. If the cuts are really equal I would go with the H (which is bigger too!) but I am concerned that the E might be noticeably better cut.

The cost of the E is quite likey the colorless premium. I agree we dont have enough information to make a informed decision. Please provide some additional information such as images, Idealscopes, angles for each stone, Certificates with plot maps or remarks, flour. if there is any, etc.

I don't have images but I was told both were excellent cuts. I don't know anything about diamonds so I have no idea if one is better than the other. Basically, I couldn't tell a difference in the cut - is she going to be able to? That's really the most important part, I guess.

If your budget allows for $3500 for the stone, I'd look for a larger G or H VS2, personally.

Just ask the jeweler for the exact weight of each stone and the GIA report number and we can look up the reports for you on the GIA site.

She is a 3.5 ring size so I'd probably go cheaper before I went bigger. Not out of cost savings (though that's nice), but bc a 1 ct ring would look too big IMO.

The H stone certification looks good, better then the G stones paper. You can look at the GIA cert's linked thru each stone. I would say that the H stone is a decent value, reason is as follows.

The above .70ct H, VS1 which has similar features/etc as your stone for 3200.00 approx with PS discount

Be very careful because "friend of the family" does not guarantee the best stone at the best price. I hope they are GIA graded and we can look at the reports for you. I can understand wanting to stay under a carat, but I might try to find some middle ground between E and H color in a .75 diamond. That is a low price on the H stone which does make me wonder if they are GIA graded.
