Hi,

I am looking to buy earrings and would really appreciate your opinions on these two stones that I have been offered.

Both of these diamonds are GIA excellents for cut, polish and symmetry. Both are J in colour and VS2 clarity.

I am attaching the certs for both. Would really value all opinions -

- on both diamonds looking at the information in the certificates - are they even worth considering
- what other information should I ask for (especially about any inclusions)
- what next steps should I take

If these two are worth considering I will ask for any further relevant information from the vendor (who is very reputable) and will post on here.

Thank you very much.

edit - despite much trying I was not able to post decent sized images of the GIA certificates - the pics uploaded but were very small and almost unreadable. I have now attached the certificates as PDF file. Sorry for anu inconvenience caused and I hope this works.

You can post the GIA report number and their respective carat weight and we can check it on the GIA reportcheck site. http://www.gia.edu/reportcheck/

Thanks

1. GIA report number 5141459955 / 3.08 carat weight
2. GIA report number 14316868 / 3.06 carat weight

I have also now attached the certificates for the diamonds on my first post.

Any advice would really be appreciated. Especially if any of the inclusions look worrying so I can ask the vendor to give me more details about them. I will post IS, ASET and other images tomorrow once I get them.

Using the HCA tool both diamonds score as excellent (scores of 0.7 and 1.1).

Trying to read up on as many resource articles as I can but it is all a bit overwhelming to suck in all at once!

Thanks

Can you get an idealscope image?

Hi! :wavey: They look like a good match. I would prefer seeing an idealscope image, but if they cannot do that, they should provide you with highly magnified images of the stones at least. As long as you have a return policy, I think you'll be fine. I'd personally probably prefer I color a little smaller, but I do remember that 3 cts was the size you really wanted.

Thanks. Here are the images for the first diamond -

Excellent! I'd just ask them how much tint they are showing, but they look like great stones! :appl:

Thank you very much DiamondSeeker.

Attached below is a side by side comparison of both stones. The arrows on the left hand one seem a lot thicker - does/will this make a visible difference between the two ? Will they still be acceptable as a pair ?

I think they look great, and no you are not going to notice difference in thickness of arrows. In fact for earrings many people go down in clarity (not examined as closely as a ring) but if you are concerned with inclusions and can afford it, might as well stay within VS2.

Thank you very much diamond seeker and part gypsy. Sounds like I have found a good pair but I am still umming over feathers in both the stones which are clearly show in the GIA certs attached to my first post. One has a feather near the crown and the other stone has two largish feathers near the girdle - clearly these were the main reasons why a VS2 clarity rating was given to the stones. I have spoken to the vendor at length and they have assured me that the stones are great and totally eye clean and that the feathers are not breaching the surface. I trust them but i am still thinking over what to do.

Am I over thinking all of this? Would the feathers bother people enough not to buy the stones ? Does it make a difference to their saleability?

Actually on my first ideal scope image you can see the feather at approx the 1 o'clock position - this is the stone with the feather near the middle. I am more concerned about the other one though.

VS2 feathers will not be a durability issue.

I know from personal experience that WF would not only tell you if there was a durability issue with that feather, they'd refuse to mount it. If you like the stones other wise, go for it. They're a beautiful match.

Thank you.

On a VS2 stone, I assume the feathers will not be reaching the surface otherwise GIA would have graded them more poorly?

It would be great if a few of you experienced in reading GIA inlusion plots can tell me if there is anything of particular concern with these two diamonds per their certificates? One of the stones also has an indented natural.

These are a lot of money and I just want to make sure that I am not doing myself a disservice in anyway. Really appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks

Sorry, I missed the questions about the feathers. I am cautious about clarity like you are, but I do not believe that VS2 feathers are a concern. They are a beautiful pair and you certainly won't see the tiny difference in arrow size in real life.

Thank you. I am ok with the feather and agree they should be a durability issues.

Overall though both diamonds seem to have a lot of inclusions mid table and otherwise for VS2 stones. Am I being too cautious ?
