Need to get ride of engagement ring

My best friend bought an engagement ring for his girlfriend, but they called things off before he proposed. He''s now having a hard time trying to resell is Helzberg diamond. Any suggestions (besides to think things through next tiem

IF he hasn't had the ring long, I think he can return it. My ex bought me a necklace that was way to expensive and I exchanged it for a few pieces of jewelry that were more practical and got a refund on the rest of it. I think I have even bought something there and returned it altogether and that went okay. However, in order to be able to return it, it has to be original. Did he have the item constructed or did he buy a stock piece?

Thanks for replying to my message. He bought the ring way back in July. I do think that it was not special ordered.
