Hi everyone, I am looking for an e-ring I have been studying the forums for a while and I now have the money to buy the ring. I live in the UK and I have decided to buy online from the US because there is more information available and hopefully will get more for my money. Obviously I won’t be able to see the diamond and sending it back will be a huge pain but hopefully with your help I’ll find one.

So far I have decided on an asscher cut set in a dvatche x-prong style setting. My budget for the diamond is about $8k-$9k. From reading the forums and looking at many pictures I am looking at the following specs:

Carat: about 1.25
Colour: F –G
Clarity: minimum VS2
Symmetry/Polish : VG or EX

I have seen this one on Good old gold but is a bit expensive, but would stretch to $10k

Please tell me what you think.

Wow! That is a really pretty stone ... great patterning. In an *ideal* world ... I''d love to see you get to 1.5 carats for 10K ...(maybe with slightly lower clarity or going to H color) but it''s not always possible -- well, w/o a lot of patience.

Maybe I can post the pix for you so others can weigh in as well ...

But - lurkers snap up stones, so be careful!

Here it is ..

kicken asscher
Id buy it.
only downside is the price cuz of the vvs2.

Wow, nice stone!

Deco brings up a good point - you may want to "reserve" it.

Welcome to Pricescope, by the way!!

Hi Lablett,

I have a VVS Asscher that is D color and I will share my experiences of after-purchase thoughts and responses.

In the real world (vs. here on PS) there are folks you will meet that will really know diamonds, but they are the minority, so you need to please your self(ves). What is it that you prioritize so you don't bust your budget. Do you need stats to impress yourself or others? Is size important? Are you color sensitive? Yes, Asschers show clarity more easily (to some) because of the step-cuts...

I lucked in to getting a VVS stone, basically at a similar price to the VS stones around when I was shopping, but I knew that I was color sensitive, starting at "F", so I was willing to spare clarity, but not willing to go lower than an "E" in color. But, asschers are not abundant, so I kept combing the vendors' supplies and found a "D" that was just higher "out-of-square" by the numbers only, which kept it advantageous - price-wise. I found that 1.041 L/W was not visible when set - at all ! GIA considers 1.06 and lower to be square, FYI, but only you can decide what is right for you.

Many here consider a D VVS to be overkill, I don't regret it at all, but I met my priorities, and boy - you should see it in real life!

Some #s to look for -Table between 55-58%, HT 60-65%, Crown Ht 12% and up.

If I consider your original post and what I think after purchase, I would recommend either of these:

1
2

Either of these leave you some $$ for your setting. Examine your true priorities (on and off paper) and search, search, search.

Good luck!

Amended to add:

Both of these now seem to be pending or sold, which emphasizes Deco''s point analyze, don''t paralyze, once you know what is right for you, snap it up !

Any more stones out there that appeal to you, right now?

Thanks everyone for your advice and comments. After what you guys said I had a panic last night that someone might buy the 1.38 before me so reserved it first thing this morning to give me more time to decide. Been on the phone to Tim at GOG today and he said it''s awesome so have just decided to go for it

Thanks to those who chipped in for reassuring me that it was a good pick, and to everyone else as I''ve learnt so much from the forums

I''ve seen ALOT of asschers around here & those pictures & stats were dead-on! I think you did an awesome job selecting & got it right on the 1st try!

Can''t wait to see pix of the finished ring -- we also love proposal details around here. No pressure!

Congratulations! It doesn''t look like you can go wrong with this stone. It even got Storm''s approval and that''s a tough one to get!

Are you going to have it set right away or will you view it first and then send it back for setting?

Gorgeous looking stone!! How do you think you would want to set it?

Hi because I live in UK thought it would be quicker and easier to get GOG to set it then send the finished ring over to me - have picked the vatche royal x-prong setting

she is going to love it!

Hi again

GOG are fantastic, received the ring last week only 3 days after they posted it (I live in the UK). Here is a link to the pics

Thanks everyone
