Hi Everyone... :wavey:

I've been contemplating starting some projects. So many ideas, so little time. I've been checking out the "SMTB" section & as always is a great place to go for inspiration. :-) I'm particularly drawn to the pieces made in Rose Gold. Can anyone share their thoughts or opinions on it? Has it lived up to your expectation as far as colour? Versatility? Wearabiltiy, have you found it wears well / not so well? Would you buy this colour again or advise against it? I know..too many questions but inquiring minds want to know. :cheeky: I've read in a few threads that 14K is more pink than 18K. True? Do you re-dip this colour when it wears off like you would with white gold? I just don't know much about this colour.

Last question, would Rose Gold be a positive or a negative colour choice for modern cut warmer stone such as a K colour. The stone I'm considering is a 1ct Pear. I have several round J stones that are mounted in white gold or platinum. They face up pretty white but I do see some tint. My apprehension is that I'm now considering something lower in colour so I'm sure I will see some tint. As for what I'm going to do with the stone, not sure. Was thinking of repurposing my e-ring which is platinum & halo the stone. Thinking out loud, I might just use this stone as a pendant stone. If I buy a new ring, I was thinking of a rose gold one. I know I won't go with yellow gold so either I choose white or pink. Trying to figure out your jewelry wardrobe sure takes a lot of mental energy! :loopy:

Thanks for your time.... 8-)

I love my rose gold rings. I have had platinum, not my favorite and I sold that setting to try white gold. Love my white gold setting. It is vintage and unique and beautiful. However, I too was bitten by the rose gold bug and I just had to try it. Still have my white gold setting but it is for sale because my favorite is my current rose gold setting. It suits my skin tone and my stone the most, I think. It doesn't need re-dipped. I have had mine over a year and the color is the same.

As to the impact on a warmer stone, that is hotly debated here. I was terribly worried that it would have a negative effect so I held off for a long time. I have found the opposite to be true. I have a modern cut L with fluorescence. I feel like the rose gold brings out the best of my stone. Mine has brown undertones, rather than the usual yellow, so it ends up having a bit of a steely look. Platinum and white gold sort of just blended with it. Rose gold provides a nice contrast and brings out the sparkle while highlighting the whiteness of the stone.

I could not be happier with my decision to try rose gold. Oddly, this setting is the least expensive of the the three (plat., wh. gold, and rose gold) I have tried. By quite a bit. Yet, it definitely suits my stone and my taste the best. Wish I had tried it originally as it would have saved considerable $.

Good luck.

Thank you for your input. Much appreciated. I didnt know that the rose gold issue was hotly debated here. Do you have any suggestions as to what threads I can search for information? Thank you agin.

The wearability of rose gold is the same as any other gold setting and I do not feel the need for it to match my other pieces of jewellery or clothing. The colour of the rose gold will depend on the alloy used so one might be pinker than another. I find 14K to be redder (brassy-er or stronger coloured) and 18K to be a softer peachier colour. It does not need plating at all because it gets its rosey colour from copper.

I view most 14K as rosier and too pink for me, but I think formulas vary - even between 18k.

I have quite a few 18k RG pieces including a P/AVC ring and a Cartier Love with I'm guessing G diamonds. I love high color diamonds in RG for the contrast and brightness, but I also think warmer diamonds look more colorful in RG.
If you are wanting to downplay the tint of your stone, RG might not be a great choice.

I think I consider my RG more casual/less traditional than my platinum pieces, but I like both.
I do think my skin tone is better with RG, but that's probably subjective too.

good luck with the strategizing!

As noted above, different alloys of rose gold have different appearances. It's not as simple as the look of 14k vs. 18k.

You could try on different types in real life to see what looks best on you, and then try to find a vendor who uses an alloy that matches the color you want. You might also want to speak with the vendor to ensure they use the same alloy every time. Not all do.

I have an 18k rose gold ring (actually it was referred to as "red gold") that has the same tone as old yellow gold I have from the 80s. So sometimes, depending on alloy, it is not obviously different from yellow. Sometimes it is subtly different, and sometimes it is very different.

I adore rose gold and have several pieces (rings, earrings, and necklaces). I think that it mixes very well with my platinum and yellow gold pieces (I often wear a mix of all three). My favorite pieces are diamond stacking rings in various colors of gold and various colors of diamonds. One of my rose gold pieces (from Tiffany) tends to fade (for lack of a better term) to more of a yellow gold shade, but Tiffany has said that this is sometimes a naturally-occurring process (exacerbated by chlorine, cleaning agents, perfumes, chemicals, etc.). They clean/polish my rose gold piece for free and it comes back looking brand new again. I agree with the others about shopping around for the right tone/color for you because the rose color can vary quite a bit based on the alloys utilized to produce the rose gold.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond. Ive tried a few peices on & liked the delicacy of the colour more than I had thought I would. I remember the yellow gold from the 80's as well. Not sure I want to remember. Ironically, even though rose gold was available then, I never looked at it. Then again, thats when tri-colour was so popular & it wasn't my cup of tea.

I more wondered about how it wears & what you think it would look like with lower coloured stones. Gives me some food for thought.
