I called around and found out that James Allen carries the setting that my girlfriend found on Novori.com Their price is $1700, but they''re willing to come off of that 15% down to $1445 which is comparable to Novori''s $1425. The above links are to some of the stones I''m considering. On each link, there is a link to the GIA Grading Report for each diamond. That is what I need help with. How do I read these? What inclusions are possibly going to be seen by the naked eye. All I care about is the stone being "eye clean".

Thanks

I could only see the report for the first and third diamonds. Of those two I''d choose the third. One inclusion looks to be a feather and the other inclusions look like they can be easily covered by a prong. Have you been able to see the inclusion plots for the other two diamonds?

No, but I''m having them sent to me. The biggest question I had was what type of inclusions may be visible to the naked eye? What am I looking for on these plots that may imply that this stone may not be "eye clean"?

I didn''t know that James Allen carried a ring setting like that, I couldn''t find it on their site.

On the diamonds, are they going to send you sarin report, ideal scope pics, actual pic of the diamond? Personally, I would need at least these things mentioned above before I bought.

Just a word of caution, sometimes it is really hard to find a "Clean" SI2. They are out there, but sometimes hard to locate.

If the novori site offers the setting for less, I would buy it there. How much would novori charge for shipping, etc???

Have a great day!

Ya know, I''m really not sure. I have just now decided for sure what I want. I''m definitely going with the Danhov Meno split shank trellis setting with a 0.90 - 1.0 stone. It will definitely make the shopping experience much easier now that I know what I want. Now, it''s basically just calling around to find out where I can get the best deal. I''m not looking for a "great" stone. I can''t get a "great" 0.90 - 1.0 stone in the setting of our choice for under $5k. That''s just not realistic. What I''m looking for is an eye clean stone with an ideal cut in the G - I color range.

Linville,

Those all seem to be a little deep. How about this one?

It''s a 1.9 on the HCA, so it still scores as an excellent stone. Plus, from what I can see on the cert, it looks as though it could be eye-clean (though they''ll have to tell you at JA).

My choice of the 4 posted is #3 however I also feel they are a bit deep...to give you an example I have a .92 and my mm dimensions are 2.26-2.29 and it carries a 61.1 depth so see you are losing just a bit of weight in the depth.
I really like the one Ebree posted...I''d have them check on it if it falls into your price range

My SI2 is virtually eye clean...I have a white feather on the edge that is covered by a prong and Rich Sherwood told me that essentially it gets lost in the reflections of the stone. You can see it on the edge by the prong if you know exactly where to look. It doesn''t bother me in the least so as far as what to look for...well with SI2 I''d make sure the inclusions are eye clean or well placed like on an edge where a prong can hide it. I guess it''s all how clarity sensitive you are.
Good luck!

I would definately take a white inclusion over a black one anyday ... to me it looks like I spilled pepper on my ring and it''s stuck

! No yucky black ones.

Also, some inclusions can only be seen from the side or from the bottoms up view ... just be sure you clarify what they mean by "eye clean". Their eyeclean and my eyeclean might be different ... ya'' know. I have an SI1 and it has a small inclusion, and visible from only the bottoms up view and it is white ... I figure if anyone can wrestle me to the ground, and manage to take my ring off, and be that flexible to view my diamond upside down ... I don''t think it''s going to matter.

I think it is a good idea to personally talk with or email your vendor that you are going to buy from. Let them know your parameters, and what is most important to you for your purchase. Hopefully, they will be able to physically look at the diamond and see if it is sparklie and meets your parameters.

Good luck and best wishes on your search ... have a great day!

judging eye clean from a plot is not the best way to find the right diamond. you need to find out what the vendors description of ''eye clean'' is and ask them to describe it to you.
as missdarlinjoy mentioned, white inclusions are better than black ones. you can''t tell which is which on a plot.
have the vendor look at the diamonds for you.

I''m definitely having the vendors help me out a lot. So far, James Allen has been been pretty helpful and I''m working on a deal with them. However, Whiteflash has been GREAT! Even though they don''t carry the exact setting I''m looking for, I''m still giving them a chance to earn my business. I''ve described to them what I want and sent them links to pics of the setting I''ve chosen. They''ve submitted this to their design team to get me a quote. The rep is estimating somewhere between $1000 and $1500. They don''t have any in-house diamonds that fit what I''m looking for, but they''re getting more info on a few other diamonds to which they have access. They''re supposed to let me know something by Tuesday.

Diamond.com was helpful and was able to come up with a setting they carry that is similar, but it''s not of the trellis design I want. They tried, but they just couldn''t come up with the setting I wanted in my budget.

BlueNile basically took a look at the setting I wanted and said they didn''t carry anything similar, sorry. No effort at all. They won''t get my business.

Good Old Gold disappointed me. I''d heard very good things. They have a very informative website. I emailed them what I wanted but they never got back to me. So, I called them up. The rep got my information, then found out that I''d sent an email previously, then basically just told me I''d have to wait my turn on the email list. Now as a person who has worked in sales and that is now a sales manager, the way I see it is that you give attention to the person who is reaching out to you at the moment. Someone you are talking to on the phone that has called you and sent you an email is probably more likely to purchase than someone who has just sent an email. It definitely turned me off and made me feel like my business wasn''t valued. They finally got back to me with a different setting. Not bad, but not what I was looking for and the customer service was a turn off. They probably won''t get my business.

Why did you decide not to go with Novori?
