Hello fellow PS'ers!!! This is my first time here, so please be easy on me.

I am having trouble with finding the best ring for the best price... I want a minimum of 1 carat and G - H in color.

Cut and clarity are the two issues I am having... I seem to get conflicting info, that cut weighs more than clarity or vice versa...

I really want to get a special ring with a special diamond, but am looking for some advice - go with an ideal or excellent cut, or move up to VVS2 and pay more there...

Help!!!

BTW - looking for a princess cut...

Without a doubt, you need to get the best cut you can get. And clarity can be anywhere from VS2 to SI2 from a reputable lab. Anything higher in clarity, you are simply paying for something you can't see. A VS2 will look just like a VVS1 to 99.9% of people. Cut is what really gives your diamond sparkle, fire, and scintillation. An average cut will be MUCH more detrimental to the overall look of your diamond than a lower clarity.

Welcome to PS!

Very well said...go with CUT as your main priority and let the rest fall into place. As an owner of 2 SI2 diamonds I''d much rather put my money into Cut and size and get an amazing deal on eye clean SI2 stones. But you have to do what you are comfortable with. There are several great vendors here who can help you find what you are looking for. Good luck!

I appreciate the input. That is what I thought, but wanted to make sure. I just want to get the best diamond for the money...

I know there are many vendors out there, and have heard horror stories about some of them, too... Does anyone have any preference or give my some input of who is good??? i.e. SUPERBcert, Abazias, White Flash, etc... I live in Philly and we have our own jewelry district, but they are far overpriced...

Any thoughts?

when it comes to vendor choice, I figure its mostly is about 3 things: if they honor PS requests like pictures and Sarin; if they have the stone you want in-house; if they carry or can make your setting.

strike out Abazias on count one.

Thanks for the advice Julie... It is such a big purchase, just want to do all of my homework...

Lately, I've been recommending AGS certed diamonds a lot. In the case of princesses, this is more so the case, that you at least see these, which have been specially crafted recently by AGS requirements, and are told to be very nice, when making AGS0.

Consider driving to NY, and going to both SuperbCert's offices, and to GOG in NY. I'd do that.

(edited to add)...another favorite option is known through his vendor network, Infinity Diamonds, so if you're out my way, in the DC area, you might try to look up Capital Bill with Icemine in the DC area.

FI & I had a SUPERB experience with WhiteFlash. My princess stone wasn't one from their in-house inventory, but Brian gave it his thumbs up and we were sold.

BTW, it's a G/SI (eyeclean, of course!). Why pay for what you can't see??
