Just wanted to know some of your opinions.

I proposed to my fiance about 1 1/2 years ago. Back then I didn''t have that much money so I went into Tiffany''s and bought a very nice ".27" Tiffany style engagement ring for about $1,700.

Now that the wedding is coming up and I saved a bit more money, I would like to buy her a bigger ring. She loves her ring but since all of her friends have huge (1 carot plus) rings. I though it would be nice if she had the same. (I know it doesn''t matter what other people think, but I think she''s due for an upgrade)

I was looking at Whiteflash and Blue Nile and probably buy from Whiteflash of those companys.

There are so many different diamonds. She already has the 6 prong tiffany ring.

Do you think its a good idea to buy her a replica of a tiffany ring with a 1 carot. Or should I get her a different style? maybe square? any suggestions?

I am looking for a 1 carot ring for about $6 - 8 K.

Are you going to involve her in the decision making?? I think it would be nice to let her pick her upgrade.

A round will get you the best spread. And since she has one and loves it, I''d stick with that. As for the setting, you might want to let her pick...unless you are sure you know what she''d like. Our tastes do change though.

I second JayRenay''s idea to involve her in the process, this way you''ll be able to truly get her something she loves.

Can''t wait to see hand pics!

And congratulations on your impending marriage!

Hi Tran-- What a lovely man you are! Definitely involve her in the process.

You have a great budget, and if you wanted to, you could easily go up to even a 1.4 to 1.5 carat if you looked in the G-I color range with SI1 clarity in a RB, and even possibly up to 1.6 carat if princess cut. In a nutshell, stick to GIA and AGS graded stones if possible, and be sure you and your fiance take a look at some of the branded stones (like hearts and arrows, a cut above, etc.) with Ideal proportions; though the added expense might shave a little bit off of size, the precision of the cut really appeals to many people as judged by all the folks here who take such lovely pictures of the H&A effect and are kind enough to post them here for the rest of us to drool over. :)

Good luck!

I think you should definitely involve her in the process. What a lovely thing you are doing for her. Let her really enjoy the whole process. Start to finish!

She might even prefer the Tiffany name and want to upgrade her current e-ring and get a larger Tiffany solitare (Tiffany has a double the price upgrade policy so it''s certainly doable with your new budget), you don''t know till you ask though!

Thanks for all of your kind words.

My fiancee frustrates me a bit, like every girl, she is very picky but she loves when I surprise her by picking out gifts myself. (even though she says I don''t have good taste, but I don''t know what looks good on a girl, I am a guy after all)

I told her that I am getting her an upgrade but she doesn''t know when, she said "surprise me".

I guess it probably is a good idea to ask for her opinion.

do you think it would look funny to get her a 1C tiffany replica to go with her .27C real tiffany ring?

I probably ask you "experts" for your opnions when I find some comparable diamonds. what website to you guys prefer?

Is White Flash good?

I actually went to Tiffany's to upgrade it. It was pretty expensive, they take way 10% of value, minus the tax that I paid on it and an additional $6K and new tax to upgrade to .60 Carot. I thought for that price, I could get her two rings!

Lucky I didn't cause then I suggested it to my fiancee after and she got really upset (sentimental value) so I guess I have to buy her a new ring!

If should told you to surprise her.... then, do it. What''s her birthstone? If it''s something fairly hard, I''d to a three stone ring with her birthstones as sidestones.

Her Birthstone?
Not sure, she was born on christmas day - Dec 25 (which sucks for gifts cause people stiff her on presents)

I probably ask for her help to pick, this is a pretty important decision. I wouldn't want to get a ring that she doesn't like (especially with my bad taste), I will keep you up to date.

nice Diamond for $6800, do the table, depth and pavilon angle mean that much or should I just concentrate on the cut?

This is an ACA, you can stop worrying about cut at this level. They really don''t get much better

I''d just get her a simple setting with the one stone. It''s classic.

Yeah, I was thinking 1 carot diamond in a simple setting, I like things that will last and not too gaudy or attracting.

Those square diamonds look cool though. Thanks for all your inputs, Ill discuss it with her this weekend.

Awww that''s so sweet. First that you went to Tiffs and now that you''re upgrading and getting the bigger stone. Best of both worlds!

The ACA from WF are super-duper-ideal. No worries on the quliaty of the stone there. I second all ideas for a simple setting. Lovely!

Please let us know what you get!

Wow, you really are a keeper! I''d go with the WF ACA in a heartbeat. What do you think about the Whiteflash Legato setting? It''s got a little bling but it''s still simple and lets the center stone shine! Here''s the address:

Yes, I happen to LOVE some of the square shapes, and I considered them briefly when I did my upgrade. But they face up a lot smaller than the same ct. weight of a round. So I went with a round, and I hope to get a right hand ring made with a square someday.
