Hi!

I wanted to get some people's advice on their experience buying from bluenile. I'm interested in a diamond on the website but I'm hesitant to buy something I haven't seen in person.

This is the diamond we're interested in.

http://www.bluenile.com/certs/6141039299.pdf?params=cHJvZHVjdD1CTkNBJnBob25lPTg4OC01NjUtNzYwOSZsaW5rPWh0dHAlM0ElMkYlMkZ3d3cuYmx1ZW5pbGUuY29tJTJGY2ElMkZfTEQwMjk0MTA5NCZza3U9TEQwMjk0MTA5NCZsYWI9Z2lhJnNpemU9MTYwMCZjdXJyZW5jeT1DQUQm

I don't know how to read the reports too well, but do you think the setting would be able hide the inclusions? Would this be considered an eye clean diamond? Do these inclusions affect the sparkle? The colour and cut are quite high so can I afford to go down on the clarity scale and still have a strong sparkle?

Also is having a strong fluorescence a good thing or bad? I'm confused about the answers I've recieved on this.

Thanks!!!

Hi there-

I ran the numbers through the HCA tool and it comes up a 1.4. Anything under 2 is good for consideration. What I don't know, and maybe one of the more expert people will come on here soon for you, is how these numbers balance out. The depth is a little on the edge of too deep (60-62 preferred) and the crown angle is a little over in to steep (34-35 preferred), but it could all balance out. Someone with more experience may know.

Do you need to purchase from BN, or are you open to other online options where you can see pictures of the stones? Are you so color sensitive as to need and E stone or has someone just told that's the only way to go? If you are open to some suggestions, you might post your budget here and see what comes up.

I think diamond is good, Clarity being VS2 would be great, the concern would be Strong Blue Fluo, check with Blue nile if they can give you expert comments on it

BN can't give much effective 'expert comments', since they don't see it/have it themselves.

OP - "strong sparkle" isn't affected by the color or clarity, so yes, you can definitely go down a bit to afford a larger stone. I think the PS sweet spot is an F VS2? But that's all dependent with what you're comfortable with, considering many are also comfortable with dropping to G-I range, and searching for eye clean SI's.

How much is that stone? Have you searched Brian Gavin Diamond's Blue line, for their Strong Blues?

This stone is almost certainly eye clean and the position of the worst cluster would end up under a prong (at least by any setter worth his salt). The strong fluor would concern me though.

Thanks for all your posts!

As a newbie I have been trying to research as much as possible but we haven't gone out and seen any actual stones yet so I'm not sure if I'm colour sensitive. I've read most people still see g stones as colourless. I'd like to stay within the d-f zone for colour but I'm not opposed to going down if it's not too noticeable.

I'm not opposed to looking at other websites so if anyone has suggestions please send them my way! =)

So for maximum sparkle I should be looking at cut right? Is there anything else I should consider? Is the medium to think girdle a concern? Why is the strong blue Fluorescence a concern?

The cost is just under $13 000

Our budget is around 10 but I haven't seen a diamond with that carat weight in that price range before. That's why I wanted to get some feedback!

I think you'd be fine down to G/H maybe even I if your lady future fi isn't overly color sensitive. You are right that it is cut that makes a diamond sparkly, and not clarity or color.

I'm no expert on pricing, so take this with a grain of salt, but diamonds are worth what they are worth, so if you find one that seem too good to be true for the size, I'd almost guess there's something about the quality or performance that is making it priced the way it is. The fluoro could have something to do with it, but you'd need to see it in person so I'd check around first....

Here's a couple in the budget you were looking at. There should be a pricscope discount showing up when you click.

If you drop down to H, you can probably go for something around or over 7mm:
