Hello all here is my story.

Im looking into purchasing a diamond for my gf. I did not know anything about diamonds before i found this site and am very gratefull.
I was convinced on purchasing a diamond online because there is a greater selection and better prices but then one day i went to a local jewlery store near home and they had a stone which was in my budget range and it really caught my eye.

it is a .90 - vs1-ideal-ex polish -ex sym - D color.

Now the problem is that the stone had a sticker with these specs only and was graded by GEMSCAN here in canada. After doing lots of reading, Gemscan isnt always the most reputable in terms of grading.

The price was in my budget it was 4700$ CDN, and when i search for similar stones online the price seems really good...but i am worried about it being graded by GEMSCAN.

Any advise???

also is this a good price for the stone? i''d also like to get more specs on the stone like the gia certs have (table, depth, pavillion and crown).

You could get it appraised to see if is what the certificate says it is.

I did a quick search on diamond prices for those specs and the price you quote is relatively low. I don''t know what that means for certain but I agree with Skippy, I would go with an independent appraisal to see if the specs are correct.

It would be a good idea to get more specs on the stone (table, depth, crown and pavilion information). If the HCA numbers check out good, then I''d call an independent appraiser to check out the other Cs.
