I am hoping you diamond experts can help me on this one.
I am looking to upgrade my wife''s ring for our 25th. We were quite youg when we were married and the current stone is pretty tiny. I have a kinda small budget of 4G and was hoping to get at least a carat since she has dealt with such a small stone for so long. I have been told that with her setting I should go no larger than 1.25C
Since she will be showing it and I am sure it may be compared against some others, I want a respectible stone.
Any idea on what minimums I should look for to insure against disappointment? It will be reset into white gold. I was looking at the EGL certs but whenever I call one of the online companies I am told that if it is rated SI2 it is probably 2 grades down from the rating. I have been focusing on Round Ideal cuts with no lower than an I color.
Any thoughts, suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Dean

are you purchasing a new setting and is that included in your budget, or do you have 4k for just the stone?

4K for the stone

well, you can get a good sized ideal cut 1ct. for 4k (spot on) here

What do you think of this one?
1.09 Ct SI1 I Round Ideal
6.69 - 6.64 x 4.1

Depth 61.6%
Table 56%
Crown Ht 15%
Pav Depth 43%
Girdle Thin, Faceted
Polish Excelent
Sym Excellent
Cutlet None
Flour None

Forgot to state that is and EGL rating

I see this stone is offered by four different vendors, which tells me that none of them has it "in house" (and also that you can compare their prices and return policies). Can you get the vendor you are working with to call it in so that you can look at it or have an independent appraiser look at it? It could be a good find . . . scores a 1.1 on the HCA with the EGL numbers. It also has a pretty good spread. I didn''t find any similar stones that looked bigger with excellent symmetry for less.

Can you get a sarin report on it? See it in person? Have it sent to an appraiser?

It''s a good start!
