Quick story...bought a e-ring a few years ago, got engaged, didnt work out thankfully, and got the ring back. The diamond is a .92c J-color VS1, which I payed $3050 at the time including the setting. Time has come that I would like to get the wheels rolling again on a e-ring for my girlfriend now.

The independent jeweler I bought from has a full trade up policy, so Id like to put about $500 or so more buck into the new ring. Which area would be the best investment on the diamond? Up in size and stay around the same color/clarity? Or maybe a small mixture of the 4 c''s?

The ring I have now is beautiful imo, but of course I am not going to use the same ring. LOL

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Is it a round stone? Does your new girlfriend like rounds too or some other shape?

I am afraid prices have gone up on diamonds, so that same ring may not cost another $1000, maybe more with setting. That price can get you the same stone through various PS vendors, but not with a setting...I am not sure how ornate it was.

But I would suggest a VS2 and a H/I color stone to improve your stone specs if you want to...it''s up to you.

Good luck! Any ideas about what type of shape she would like or setting?

Congrats on moving toward engagemet again! Supercool you don''t have to start at square 1 with e-ring resources. I really wish I had the rock from my first union.

Doh, sorry...the ring I have is a princess cut and will probably be looking for another princess cut. The setting is a simple x-prong type setting similar to the look of the Lucida setting from Tiffanys...in white gold.

If prices have gone up, Id certainly wouldnt be opposed to gettting a diamond at the same specs again as I really like the stone. I could probably come off a bit more money too, just trying not to over do it.
