Hi Everyone!!

First question here :) would really like to know everyones opinion. My boyfriend and I have been looking for engagement rings for a few months now. We found a stone we liked, had a wax setting created, but my boyfriend happened to find another ring that he absolutely loves at another jeweler. How do we break off our relationship with the previous jeweler. We have been working with them for about 2 months, and just have frozen at the wax setting stage cause we are unsure. How absolutely rude are we?????? Anyway we can break away respectfully???

All opinions are welcomed!!!

Thank you :)

Welcome, Martha! Have you seen the ring at the other jeweler? I would not make the change if you haven't since you have been involved with the first ring. You may not even like it as well.

If you do decide you want the other ring, I think you'll have to be honest and tell the current jeweler you found something somewhere else. I think it would be reasonable to charge you for the work they have done so far. Some jewelers have a deposit for just this reason. If your jeweler did not, then they might not be able to charge since it wasn't discussed up front.

So do you mean you aren't buying their diamond, either?

Hi Diamondseeker!

Thanks for the reply! No it would be a complete purchase with the new jeweler. I think you are right that I take a look also. I honestly do not mind getting charged for the work they have done so far. I would rather leave if needed respectfully. Any idea what a wax setting would cost and about 4 visits?

I really have no idea at all. They could charge $100, $500 if they did a lot of design work, or nothing. I do admire you for your wanting to leave on as good terms as possible. I'd just be sure about the other ring before abandoning these plans.

Tell me about the other ring. Is it antique or new? Is a diamond already set in the setting? Does the diamond have a GIA grading lab report? Just want to be sure the diamond you are changing to is a good one! (I am heading to bed..eastern time here, so I will check back tomorrow!)

Hi Diamondseeker!

Really really long day at work….hows the weather holding on the east coast??? Hope your safe!

I actually don't know anything about the "new" diamond except that it is a cushion, color E and SI1

I do have the specs on the other diamond though and would love to know your opinion on it.
