Hi,

I've been lurking on the site for the last couple weeks trying to learn as much as possible about diamonds before my purchase. I think i'm ready to take a stab at it.

Since I live in NYC, its easy for me to go on over to the diamond district so i was thinking of checking out ID Jewelry and having Yekutiel help me shop for a diamond. Do you think his prices will be competitive with the online retailers? I would prefer to see these things in person but its not a requirement. My budget is around 12-13k for the ring.

I was looking at these two diamonds on JA:

Any thoughts on these? Just want to know if i'm applying my knowledge correctly. Thanks!

I would also drop by Good Old Gold on Long Island; they have an excellent selection of beautifully cut rounds.

Brilliantly Engaged (formerly Engagement Rings Direct) has great rounds. Stop in, you'll be happy you did. And they are right in the diamond district.

Both those JA stones are nice stone (AGS000). I like the look of the J better.

Did you ask the gemologist to compare them? See what they have to say. That may help you decide.

Thanks for your replies!
Since I've never really inspected these diamonds up close before, I'm gonna try going to ID Jewelry and Brilliantly Engaged first just so i could put some context to these letter grades.

I wanted to pick out some diamonds online first (just to see if at least I pick good diamonds on paper and to check if my diamond understanding isnt flawed) and send links to those two guys so that they would have a better idea of what I'm looking for and expecting.
