Hi All,

This is my first post and I''m hoping to get a bit of friendly advice on that perfect stone for my lovely GF.

I''ve attached the certificate for the stone I''m looking at which I''ve punched the numbers into the calculator and it''s comes up with the below (assuming I''m doing it right of course) So from my limited knowledge based on numbers it appears to be a pretty good stone.

Light Return - excellent
Fire - excellent
Scintillation - excellent
spread - very good

BUT - This is one that is available through diamondexchange.com.au and I''m always a little hesitant when it comes to handing over your hard earned cash to the unknown. Is anyone able to provide a bit of feedback on the stone and any experiences in dealing with diamondexchange? Also do you think I''m better saving a few $$''s by looking for a stone with a SI1 rating instead of a VS2 rating. The email from them did say that the diamond was "eye clean" but I understand this is very subjective.

Any help would be appreciated - thanks in advance.

That looks like a potentially very nice stone.

MDX, I believe, is a company with a good reputation.

Eye clean is actually quite well defined. While there are always exceptions, I don''t find it to be "quite subjective." Just be clear about their working definition of the term. An SI1 will be priced lower than a similar stone that is otherwise a VS2, and an F will be priced lower, as well, than a similar E. Probably if you are hesitant to drop to Si1, dropping to an F or G is probably a bit easier on the mind.

Welcome Andy,

This could be a good looking stone, would this vendor provide an Idealscope image? That would be useful if so. The term eyeclean is indeed subjective, there is a good chance a VS2 of this size will be eyeclean, but ask the vendor to get the diamond in hand and talk you through it, be clear as to what your expectations are - this thread should help also.

You could certainly drop to a verified eyeclean SI1 clarity if nicely cut.

Do a search here for MDX, you will find that many of us had exasperating ( I was so fed up with trying to actually buy stones from them that I ended up purchasing from overseas!) and sometimes flat out bad experiences with them. Be very careful when reading their exchange / upgrade policy in particular. There have been two members in the past 12 months who have their upgrades knocked back unfairly. If you are purchasing from there, get any upgrade and refund policies in writing and ask lots of questions. You don''t want any nasty suprises.
