Hi Everyone,

Just stumbled upon this website yesterday and spent all night reading up on diamonds. It feels like my head is going to explode trying to digest all this information! :loopy:

I have been shopping for an engagement ring abd have decided on the band (6prong solitaire) but now need the stone. I only have been looking locally but after reading some of the testimonials here, have decided to see what I can find online within my budget.

Looking for something realistically in the 1.6 carat or larger size, H or above color, in clarity ranges VS2-SI2. I would of course like to get the best possible cut as well to enhance shine. As long as the diamond is eyeclean I would deem it acceptable (and so would my significant other).

I'd like to get the best possible diamond with my budget which is in the 15K-18K range. Just as an example, i've been able to find a 1.7 H/SI2 VG cut locally GIA for $15.5K, but after coming here am thinking that might be priced a little high considering the clarity/cut. I know for a fact that there is a small feather located centrally under the table that I can see from the pavillion view (which bugs me) and perhaps a cloud as well. I am not entirely sure if its 100% eyeclean from the top view (I will be going back at the end of the week to take another look). I am hoping before I go in again that I'll have something to compare it to.

I'm loving all the pictures and ideascopes available -that eases my mind a little about buying online. Too bad my vendor locally doesn't have anything like that.

Please help! I'm definitely open to suggestion and just want to maximize my dollar!

Thanks in Advance!

think i will have to do that.

do you know what I should be looking at to make sure that the diamond has a real brilliant shine to it?

You can always use the HCA score (available under "tools") to help eliminate potential duds. Look for anything under 2.0. After that lower isn't necessarily better.

Yeah i've been looking into that as well as the idealscope pics. I really just hope they are a good representation - I guess having a trusted vendor look at the diamond itself will help reassure me.... its just a matter now of narrowing it down to a couple stones.....
