Need PS Expert Opinions-Buy or Not?

Hi All

Have been soaking up ya''lls knowledge like a sponge over these last few weeks. Yesterday I went to Whiteflash and viewed some diamonds in person. BTW, very nice folks there and very professional, no sales pictures, just matter of fact ''this is what we have, etc".

Anyway, based on my budget and what I have read here I had focused on around .75-.85 Round Diamond, Hearts and Arrow, GIA.........which I saw yesterday and looked very nice.

Then they pulled out a J SI 1.014 carat which from my untrained eye looked as sparkly as the other diamonds. It was only when viewing side by side, upside down, that I noticed the color difference.

Long story short, here are the specs for the J carat. Would greatly appreciate final comments on if you think this is a good buy or should I stick with the smaller carat H bracket.

Thanks in advance to all opinions. They are valued. Will post all that I have on this diamond.

Thanks Lorilee, I was definitely hoping you would chime in on this thread. I guess it concerns me that I cant see hardly any, if at all, noticeable difference when looking down at the diamond. Was thinking perhaps my eyes were the problem, especially after reading so much about color on these threads.

That sig. ideal cut will hide the color very well. Like you said, will only really be visible from sides and back against paper.

Color and the influence of CUT

The shape of a diamond influences the amount of color people may see in it. A round brilliant is the most efficient shape for returning light and will show less apparent color than a mixed cut like a princess, or a step cut like an emerald or asscher. But most important is how well the diamond was cut.

Diamonds are graded in the face-down position and viewed for color from the side. This is because great light return in a diamond can ‘mask’ color, especially in round brilliants. Extremely well-cut diamonds may appear more colorless in the face-up position than the grade they received at the lab due to superior light return. For instance, a diamond that was graded H in the side position can ‘face-up’ like a G or an F, but only if it was cut extremely well.

Rickster, it looks like you picked two fantastic stones, so the only thing at play here is if you liked the appearance of the warmer stone.

We find that when diamonds of many varied color grades are lined up, many customers actually select the warmer stones as the ones their eyes prefer. There''s no wrong answer; it just depends on whether or not it appealed to your eyes.

If you liked the appearance of the J, it''s an awesome way to jump a bit in weight.
