I''m looking at 2 Diamonds and having a hard time deciding, so just thought I would get some feedback. The first one is .52 carat, VS2, D color, ideal cut, GIA certified. The second is .64 carat, VS1, G color, ideal cut, GIA certified. Both are similar in price. Opinions? Thanks, Curt

Hi Curt!

We need more info which you should find on the grading report.

depth
table
crown angle
pavillion angle
girdle thickness
diameter measurement - e.g= 6mm x 6.02mm
Fluorescence if any.

Also GIA 's highest cut grade is Excellent, labels such as Ideal Cut are often used but don't always mean a diamond is well cut, it is more complicated than that. Best to compare each on a case by case basis. Post the info above when you can and we can help further! Also if these look good from the numbers, you can narrow your choices further by requesting an Idealscope Image or ASET from your vendor, if he has these available. These images help confirm the cut of the diamond and how it handles light and returns it to your eyes for likely performance.

Just a thought, you say you are looking at 2 diamonds, are these with a jeweller or online vendor? Have you actually seen them?

Ditto that. A vendor can call whatever he wants as Ideal or Premium but we don''t know the criteria. The first step is to get all the information Lorelei pointed out.

Thanks for the replies. I only have that information for the .52 carat for now, I''m working on getting info on the other one. I''m in Canada , and I don''t know if things are done differently here, but most places just tell you an ideal cut is an ideal cut, or very good cut is a very good cut, it takes quite bit to get all the numbers....any how for the .52 Shape-Round Brilliant Weight-.520Ct Diameter-5.20(5.19-5.22) Crown Angle-35.0 Crown Height-14.8% Pavil Angle-40.9 Pavil Depth-43.5% Culet-0.2% Table Size-54.8% Total Depth-61.1% Girdle Thickness-0.9-1.4 Thin Proportion- Ideal Clarity-VS2 Color-D I will post numbers on the .64 soon..I hope. Thanks again.
