Hello,
I am new to the diamond world, but I am in the process of giving my girlfriend of two years an engagement ring. She likes the Princess-style cut and wants it on a solitaire setting. From going to the jewelry store as well as her initial thoughts before doing so, sparkle and size are the most important thing to her. From looking at a few diamonds, it was determined that as long as the color was not below an H, and the size was as close to 2 carat as possible and had brilliant sparkle, she would be more than happy. The jeweler at the store showed us a few diamonds, and one sparkled less than others and indicated that it was due to the "clarity" of the diamonds. All of the diamonds he showed us were of the "very good" cut, but ranged in clarity (the SI-1 and -2's appeared to have more sparkle than than those in the "I" range). From research, it appears the clarity would not have an effect on sparkle however, as it is the quality of the cut that would effect the diamond.
We looked at diamonds that had some inclusions that could be seen with the naked eye and those that could only be seen with the magnifier. She said she didn't care as long as the sparkle was there. If buying online, I would've liked to pay no more than $11,500 for the diamond, but am willing to go a bit beyond that if it will make a difference with the sparkle. That being said, I found this diamond, and have included the ASET, idealscope, and actual images. What do you think? It's a princess, excellent cut, VS2 (according to GIA).
