My girlfriend found this ring online that she loves. I have no way of knowing wether the price is good for it, even though the seller says it''s "already well under retail" I would really appreciate any opinions on wether this ring is a good purchase. She loves the ring, but I don''t want to spend too much for something just because she likes it. It also does not seem to be appraised at all, and the return policy is for exchanges only.

All diamonsd on ring are old mine cut
Main diamond - 1ct. L color I1 clarity
Surrounding diamonds - 36 stones, 0.5 total carat weight VS-SI clarity, H color
Band is platinum

Asking price is $4100

Thank you very much for any help you can give!!

phil - im sure you will get alot of experts telling you no to this one, if your gonna spend that kinda money get something appraised
look on some of ps vendors is your best bet

while the ring is gorgeous, i think that is quite overboard for that color and clarity, especially with no cert to back it up. it could very well be an N color, you don''t know what you''re really paying without a cert. i am also comparing the price to my own ring. my ring has a GIA certed stone, also an L color, 1.06ct, VS1 clarity. my stone along with my halo setting cost less than this ring you posted. I wouldn''t call the asking price "well below retail" at all....if it''s the setting she loves, i''m sure one of the PS vendors could replicate it or show you something similar with a stone that has a cert so you know what you are getting for sure.

No appraisal...where did you find this ring?

it was on Ebay from a reputable seller (as far as I can tell), but my concerns were basically the same ones you are all bringing up. Being as I''m not even cose to an expert I didn''t know if my concerns were justified. Thanks so much for all the opinions so far. I will try to look into some PS vendors with her for something similar. I don''t mind spending the money, but at the same time I want to make sure it''s a wise purchase. I really appreciate all your help.

i wouldn''t do it. ebay is just too big of a sea at this point and it''s way to easy to lose your $. If your gal wants a real estate/antique ring, find a local jeweler who specializes in them and then make sure you have the piece appraised and make sure there is a good return policy or they are willing to work with you if the appraisal doesn''t match what they say it is.
