After looking online at many diamonds, I think this is the one I am going to buy. I can''t get anymore information on it until the 26th because the owner of dirtcheapdiamonds is on vacation and is the only one that has keys to the safe. If everything looks good I plan on having it sent to an independent appraiser just to make sure. I''m still nervous about spending this kind of money online.

When I can get more information on the stone what should I get? I plan on asking for the ideal scope, inclusion and hearts and arrows images. Is there anything else I can ask for that would help me with my decision?

I noticed by doing some searching that this stone has been for sale since at least February of this year and started out at about $5800 and has dropped ever since. Why do you suppose that is, from what I can tell it is an amazing stone. Is it still priced too high?

This is a slightly shallow stone, which score a .5 XXXX on the HCA. XXXX is great, but a .5 score comes with this caveat:

"A shallower stone, on the lower part of the chart, will look darker when viewed from close up, they are not for everyone. Shallow stones have the advantage of a bigger spread. They are better suited for use as pendants and earring stones where they are not usually viewed from very close proximity (a close observers head obstructs light sources that would otherwise be returned)."

This may be the reason it is still available. However, I have dealt wiht Jim Schultz (DCD owner) several times, and he is a straight shooter. Ask him for details as well as his opinion. I would also send the stone to an appraiser for an independant opinion. This could be a great stone, or there could be a reason it is still hanging around. I think apprasiers are a great way to get validation and make it safe to look at stones that may or may not be awesome, if you are looking for a "find".

My (humble!) opinion is that it looks like a great stone... and the plotting diagram looks excellent too. H/VS1 is a real winning combo!

If you have it sent to an independent appraiser, and look at it yourself under all possible lighting conditions during the return period... you've got nothing to lose!

BTW, I love how it is just shy of 1 carat... tells me that the cutter took the high road and gave it an ideal cut, rather than sacrificing cut (and beauty) by keeping empty weight - just to get it to the $$$ benchmark $$$ 1 carat size.

Hi dwjack-

I think this looks like a great stone. Be sure to look at it in different lighting and really close up, to see if the shallowness will be an issue, but I suspect it won't. I'd worry w/pavilion angles less than 40.6, but I think you're in a real sweet spot with that stone. Good eye!

Wow, this looks like a good deal. (...beware...I am a neophyte) Here's why: I searched for a very similar diamond and was happy when I found it. It scores .7 XXXX on the HCA. Your stone and mine are similar: a small carat difference, a small color difference - but a more consequential price difference. My stone was a good price amongst other 1 carat stones. This is perhaps what people are talking about when they talk about the 1 carat mark!?

Good luck!
