Need opinion on gold color.

I''ve bugged the CS forum peeps about this before, but the time has come to actually make a definitive decision, and I''m still waffling on gold color for a setting!

I''m setting this blue tourmaline:

Into this setting:

I''m having trouble deciding between white gold, yellow gold, or a yellow gold bezel with white shank that might look a bit funny since there wouldn''t be a sharp division given how smooth the setting is.

I like the how the stone looks in yellow gold since it has a little green in it and I think the yellow gold makes the color more complex by bringing out the green a bit. But I wear mostly white gold and think it looks nicer against my skin..AHHH....help?

I voted white gold, but I can''t tell if it''s just because I''m a white gold fan, or because I really think it would look better. For some reason I tend to really prefer white gold for any stones in the blue-green spectrum.

I voted white gold as I have never been a fan of blues in yellow. To me the cool blue with the warm yellow is too much of a contrast.

I still think that it would be better in white gold for two reasons. First, you mentioned that you are more of a white gold person and second the undertones of the stone are cool (unlike peridot for example which seems to have more yellow/warm undertones) and the cool white gold will compliment it more. Can''t wait to see the finished ring

I LOVE your setting! I would have it in white gold, because I love how cool and crisp it looks, but I wouldn''t entirely rule out a really nice shade of rose gold either (not helping much, am I?!)

I don''t love it with yellow, but that''s probably more because I don''t suit yellow gold myself. If it was for me, I''d go coppery pink or white.

Whatever you pick, it''s a gorgeous setting and it will look stunning.

Yellow! I love the contrast, and I think that a bright blue pops more on yellow gold than on white gold. For a more subtle type of blue, and type of gem, I''d recommend white gold. But for a bright, cuprian type color, I''d love it in yellow gold...it reminds me the bright happy colors of a tropical paradise, blue skies and golden yellow sunsets.

It''s from MichaelE / Michael Edgett of the Gemshoppe. He currently has my tourmaline (well, I bought it from him, so in a way it''s also his tourmaline), and is just waiting on me to make up my mind on color.

white gold- the color is pretty enough without needing to make it more complex or whatever... but I''m a fan of you wearing it frequently which will be more likely if it is in the color metal you prefer. the stone may look really nice in yellow, but it won''t look nice at all sitting unloved in your jewelry box

I agree that the stone is complex enough. You don't need the yellow gold because I think it'll distract (and possibly overwhelm) from the the beauty of the stone.

I voted white gold, but if it had been in the poll, I would have voted for rose gold - I think it would capture the color offset/richness that you are looking for from the yellow gold, but rose gold usually looks good on the same folks who wear white metals well.
