Okay, SDL has done a great job of Gasping and showing me how to do diamond shopping the PS way. I still need more moral support.

I made an impulse buy.

I really wanted leverbacks but settled for .46 and .46 f/g studs lowered in the white gold basket (don't know if they are certified) brilliants in a four prong. 3K

For the pendant I purchased a GIA round .92 J SI1 white gold setting rabbit ear sytle for 4K.

I have 5 days for full refund if I am not 100% satisfied. I left the owner a voice mail yesterday (they were closed), in order to tell him that I needed a lot more information on the stones and to discuss comparable pricing in order to feel 100% satisfied with our transaction. The stones weren't going to be set until today, so I asked him to delay setting them until we had an opportunity to talk. I plan on going into the store today.

Man, I suck at this stuff. But that is why I have all of you!!!

WOW! 4000K??? That is way over price... :P

I know...now I really know. If I recall, when I started talking about WF and Blue Nile and how nervous I was because I didn''t have internet access, I knew I should not have paid, but I was...impulsive. I also knew that I still had time to research and see just how bad an impulse buy can be. Now I know.

I don''t know if it''s wishful thinking or if I heard him say he would match the price of any comparable vendor. However, I am more concerned now over the studs. I want leverbacks like the ones Bliss just got and upon research, I could have larger stones in leverbacks for nearly the same price of the studs I just purchased. GAH!! I wanna kick myself.

3000k and 4000k as in 300,000 and 400,000 or 3000 and 4000?

Ahahahahahaha DavR. I'm diamond dumb, but not RICH diamond dumb. (I get you now Stone)

3K or 3000
4K or 4000

Sorry about that. My nerves are freaking me out. I feel totally out of my element negotiating about diamonds.

ETA: I edited the gazillions and fixed that...all before tax btw. Tax is a bear these days.

Ya, I was cracking about the 4 million dollar joke... :P

Not over price if the cut is good... Do you have the GIA report?

No report...like I didn't learn lesson number one already from PS'ers. Just the number. I looked at several loose stones before I choose the one I purchased and sort of just spaced out over the fact that I was finally ready to take the dive. I sort of cannonballed...didn't I?

Ya.

Seems like you learn to swim by jumping into ocean. :P

sounds like you need to stop and get your money back and take your time.
3k is a lot of money to spend on something that isn''t exactly what you want.

Heehee. I just replied to your post in my leverback thread! I'm so glad you had the convo!

GOOD FOR YOU!

Do you live in a city where there are other PSers? It might help to go in with one of them. I like to take a friend or ask someone to try on the earrings for me. Weird, I know!

Or go to a PS vendor! They never pressure or make you buy anything without checking and being well informed. Did you go to a PS vendor?

It's true! You could have much bigger leverback diamonds for that price.

I say don't go to this jeweler, start from scratch (bye bye earrings and the pendant) and call a PS vendor! Yekutiel has those leverbacks you love...

I am like you - when I know what I want, I want it now. LOL. But I've never regretted buying from PS vendors because I never felt rushed and I trusted them completely. I knew I was getting the best bang for my buck, best cut and etc.

Go for it! Try that style of leverbacks on before you pull the trigger!

Okay, I feel stronger now. I am going to cancel the sale. I feel sufficiently stupid. I spent too much time in the Bride and Grooms thread when my daughter got married last year and not enough time in here. I just get intimidated in this area. So odd, because in my professional life I am a lion.

Karl, I am going to do what you said. Bliss...oh I drool over your earrings.

I think I just wanted to know that my vendor was here in town and they have a good upgrade policy and they do have amazing pieces with a great cut...but so do vendors that aren't in town. I just realized I typed that whole sentence without breathing. :::breathing::::

I am lucky enough to have two PS'ers here in town, and extremely lucky enough to have SDL.

Oh, I would spend all my time in the BWW thread if I had a gorgeous daughter like you do, too! That wedding was beathtaking and you look like sisters! I still tear up and think of my own mom when I remember that photo you posted - under which you wrote, "I just love looking at her." Awwwwww. That's what my mom says about me! Moms and their daughters have such special bonds, don't we?

Anyway, back to sparklies. The leverbacks rock! Just make sure you love them on YOUR ears. Have you tried some on in the store?

Oh, I can''t believe you remember that photo!! Now I remember your reply post. It really is a special bond. One that my daughter is now making with her 3-week old daughter. You can see her pictures in my Whos Who thread. She is AAAAA-dorable.

And what kind of grandmother would I be if I wimped out on negotiating diamonds? It''s just unacceptable Gramma. hahahaha

I haven''t tried on the leverbacks, but intend to do so today. I''m starting from scratch and I am working on not feeling guilty when I see the folks face to face today. I am a little scared though. I have no idea why. I guess it''s lack of knowledge.

Remember how strong I was with the wedding dress? I need to get back my Mojo.

Wow, you are the loveliest SUPA-Granny ever!!!!

LOL. Congratulations!

Yeah, get your mojo back on!

Good advice! Wherever you decide to buy from let us know and we can help you accordingly.

Whew!!! Glad you decided to start over! We might have had to do some kind of intervention for you!

Now, I was looking at Brian Gavins inventory this week and he has TONS of stones in the .40-.49 range and plenty in the .90 range. Please call them and tell them what you want. You''ll get top quality stones and excellent workmanship on your settings. It''s a no-brainer, really!!!!

(Example: .45 H VS2''s at @ $900 each, plus settings would be under $2000, then .90 J SI1 for $3375. plus setting)

Sooo easy and you get the best of the best without a lot of work.
