I have read all about the insurance groups on priscope and I called Chubb in NYC. They said that they cannot insure my ring(independently appraised at $9,000) unless I have other policies like renters. I live at home with my mother and we don''t have any renters unfortunatly! I just want my ring insured with the best policy and I was really interested in Chubb due to al the positve feedback on this site. Please help. If anyone could give me a number of someonein the NY, or Brooklyn area. Thanks this website was amazingly helpful in my fiance and my quest for a ring and appraiser so thanks again

you def don't want renters? I have a policy on my coop (so not full blown home owners insurance) and added my ring. It's about 60 bucks a month maybe. I bet renters would be the same price. ?? Just a thought!

Try Jewelers Mutual.

I guess the consensus of posters on this site when trying to find a Chub agent is to keep trying, many posts have said they got different answers from different people. Try Francesca at 914-946-3600 x6014. She told me she could do it as stand alone. Her office is in White Plains. NY
good luck

Try Chuck Chernick at 212-697-2147. He has been recommended here in the past. I'm working with him now and I'm getting a standalone Chubb policy. It's $2.30 per $100 of coverage. Good luck!

On an $8,000 appriased ring that would be $184 ($2.30 per $100)
On the same number above, my SF premium is $86! I already have homeowners and auto with them. This is a separate rider/policy "Persponal Articles Policy"-probably similar to Chubb.
I am not saying to go SF, to each his own, in terms of replacement vs. cash payout. In my situation I would want the ring replaced, so therefore to assure the closest match I can get, I would recommend as much detail about the stone and setting as possible in the
Declaration page, so you can 100% happy. Good luck.

Hi baltneu,

Thanks for the note. I agree that there are much more affordable options than the Chubb policy. But my preference is for a cash payout rather than replacement. In the terrible event that the ring or stone gets lost, I would rather have full control over finding a new stone. The insurer who is replacing the item has every incentive to replace it at the cheapest possible cost. And there are plenty of stones out there that have great specs on paper, but don't look very nice. No matter how much detail about a stone the insurer is given, it's hard to include "and it looks really, really sparkly and pretty" on an appraisal. I spent months finding the perfect stone for my fiance. I am skeptical that an insurer would do the same.

But as you say, it's a matter of personal preference -- and I agree wholeheartedly that the Chubb premium on this ring (which I pick up Thursday -- hurrah) is painful!

P.S. If anyone knows of cheaper cash value policies out there, please let me know -- I still have a few days before I sign up with Chubb.

I have no experience with daimond replacement but can the insurance co. push a replacement diamond on you that you do not like or come to agreement with? Perahps someone can chime in who has dealt with insurance co. replacement and the process.

WOW...Thank you beowulf33. My friend had called a Chubb agent here in NYC to get her $12,000 ring appraised and the agent quoted her $600 for a standalone policy.

Try Jewelers Mutual, http://www.jewelersmutual.com/ you can get online quotes, for a 9k ring it's $203 per year, the thing I love about it is my fiance and I are both insured, so we don't have to change names when I give it to her (2 weeks!!!).

It seems that the Jewelers Mutual policy is a "repair or replace" policy, similar to SF, not like Chubb
