Hi everyone! I have been enjoying reading and catching up on all posts from the last several months. It has been a visual treat to see all the gorgeous new rocks, and different experiences, and input everyone has shared. I have a question I would love input on. I currently have my diamond is a heavy thick simple platinum band. I have found a beautiful antique platinum setting, with triangular emeralds and diamonds around the basket and band. My question is : Could a 10mm round basket setting be modified to fit a 9mm stone? Here a link to the setting:

I would not call that a basket setting?

If the ring is made before the tip stones are set then it would be easily modified.

Are you going to put a 9mm diamnd into that setting though?
(?????)

Yes, I was thinking about it. The only thing I was concerned about is the stone might not be set was too flush, or not to it''s best advantage. Do you think this would work, or would it not be a good idea?
Thanks again!

This looks like a kind of difficult modification to me. There was, of course, another stone previously set in this mounting and the seats have been cut to accept it''s size and quirks. They''re cut pretty deep. The smaller stone is going to have it''s own issues to deal with and there is no metal available for the craftsman to work. I''m going to guess that the old stone was a diamond and that the new stone will not be, which probably means differences in girdle thickness, pavilion geometry and other important issues. Don''t just buy this mounting and a stone assuming that any old jeweler can put them together. Doing this properly may be difficult and consequently expensive.

Thank you. I have decided to pass on this mounting. All your input has been helpful!
