Hey.

Finally got my assessment back for a diamond I was interested in. I'm going to decide/confirm by the end of today whether I want to buy it or not (at work so now, but by the time I get home and need to decide everyone on the forum will be asleep). Please keep in mind that the ASET for a pear looks very different from a round brilliant when you judge the pictures. I've linked some example pears from GoodOldGold and JogiaDiamonds as they have ASET pictures available for their signature selection. I assume this is how good it gets with pears (or they wouldn't have been hand picked), so it should make a good benchmark.

Keep in mind that this diamond is an H color and will be set in a halo with what I guess is F/G diamonds (whatever brian gavin uses), in case that influences your opinion. I'll admit I'm a bit worried that it will make the center diamond look yellow, even though I've been assured it shouldn't. The ring itself will be white gold or platinum.

Carat: 1.57
Size: 10.07 x 6.66 x 3.94 mm
Color: H
Clarity: SI2 (twinnings wisps, supposedly eye clean)
Depth: 59.1%
Table: 57%
Girdle: slightly thick - thick
Symmetry: Very good
Polish: Excellent
Fluorescence: None
L/W ratio: 1.51
Certificate comments: Additional twinning wisps are not shown. Surface graining is not shown.
Certificate: GIA

Brian gavins opinion:
"The diamond is beautiful with great life to it. It is difficult to show this in a 2dimensional static picture but I assure you that it is a great stone."

Photos etc:
Unfortunately I only got idealscope and no aset! Not sure how to interpret it.

EXAMPLE SIGNATURE DIAMONDS WITH ASET PICTURES:
GoG diamond 1
GoG diamond 2 (weird shape)
GoG diamond 3
Jogia diamond 1
Jogia diamond 2 (weird background, makes it look better then it is I think)
Jogia diamond 3 (weird background, makes it look better then it is I think)

So yeah, what do you think? Does it look good? Any dealbreakers I might not have noticed? Inputs are much appreciated! Oh, and I pre-wrote this thread and saved it as a draft so I could just put in the pictures when they arrived (using my phone) and post the thread right away, which is why I haven't got any of my opinions in yet ;)

It looks like a beautiful stone. I would trust Brian's judgement since he has seen the stone in person. As far as the color I know it would be fine for me, but color is a personal preference and only you can decide that :twirl: If Brian is making the setting you could also request that he use G-I melee if that would make you more comfortable.

It looks like a nice stone. Fairly typical idealscope image (its a pear...it has leakage :cheeky: ). Most people who love
pears are willing to accept the reduced light return to get the beautiful shape of the stone.

I would accept BGDs opinion of the stone however, I would have it sent to me before the haloed setting is made so
that there are no surprises when it shows up.

I'd trust Brian's eyes on the performance. But yes, an ASET would be nice. Ideal scope is kinda useless with fancy diamonds. It DOES show that it doesn't have a big tie though, so that's great.

It won't look yellow. It's an H and twining wisps are great inclusions if they are not negatively impacting the stone (which in this one it isn't).

Overall, looks like you've got a needle in a haystack!

I can NOT WAIT to see this gorgeous ring. I'm so excited for you. PLEASE, PLEASE post pics of the ring (both BGD's and your own) when you have it! :wavey:

Also, I have an F and my melee are F/G... and my halo still looks "whiter" in some light than my center. It's just because melee diamonds perform very differently than larger diamonds, especially fancies. It's a function of light performance not color.

I agree with Gypsy. See if you can get an ASET but overall the stone looks really good. Do you have the inclusion plot also?

Not sure why I got an idealscope instead of requested ASET, but I think I will just go for it and trust their judgement. It looks nice as far as I can see, and I like the shape/proportions. I have been very impressed by their service so far, and they are going to try and meet my very tight deadline, so I really need to let them know asap if I want it so they can get started :) ie I will email them within the next couple of hours instead of waiting until tomorrow for an ASET and waste another full day.

Anyway, here is the inclusion plot, was a bit rushed this morning... although I doubt I'll get any more replies to this thread in the next couple of hours ;)

I can not have the diamond shipped to me to look at it and then send it back to be set as I live overseas. I will post some pictures when the ring arrives though, hopefully it will be fairly soon.

Alright, well I've emailed them and things should hopefully be put into motion shortly. I'll create a new thread once it is finished ;)

Fancy shapes like pears are so subjective and if you love it, thats all that matters. People search years for pears that fit their requirements and appeal to them. If you have achieved both (it seems like you have) then you have your winner. Trust what your eyes love. :appl:

I hope you go for it and can't wait to see it! Do come back with more photos and your plans for settings if you decide this is the one.

Good choice. I would have chosen the 1.5 H SI2 stone from BG as well, although you didn't post the price. smaller table and large face up stone with a decent depth. Liked the 1.7 F SI 2 as well but it has a larger table and they just look flatter. I love pear shaped stones.

We've already started to proceed and they grabbed a deposit etc, but I did get the ASET today. Looks very good from what I can tell, looks better then the ones I linked above I think. These things do seems to depend a lot on how the picture is taken though, but I'm more than happy with this one either way :)

That's going to be quite a sparkly pear! Great choice!

That ASET picture looks like you need to blow it up and frame it...a "work of art"! LOL

OMG! That is the most amazing pear ASET I've seen on here in so long! That's AWESOME!!!! SO excited for you!

I wasn't going to update this thread and instead I was going to make a new thread when it arrives with all the pictures (ie diamond/aset/cad/finished etc), but I'm too excited and thought I'd share the CAD :) I'll still make the other thread later and collect all the pictures (including new ones). I got the CAD yesterday (Thursday US time) and my money is scheduled to hit their account today (Friday) so they can start working on the ring. I don't think I want to make any changes as they are trying to get this done for me in an incredibly impressive timeframe to meet my deadline, but feel free to give your opinion anyway (this is really the last chance if I DO want to change anything).

I want to start by apologising to Gypsy as I think the design looks a little different from what you imagined and recommended ;)
It's a very simple halo design, but I like it (and it should hopefully be durable with 4prongs (see edit at bottom) on melee diamonds etc). It's 2mm wide in platinum. There are no wires under the diamond as was planned, but I do really like this look and after much consideration (and from recommendation by BGD) I decided to go ahead with no wires. In the end I think it needs that extra touch since it is so ordinary otherwise. They seemed confident it would require something extraordinary to be able to knock the diamond out or anything like that. Either way, we would obviously have insurance, so if something major like that happens (knock on wood) we can probably get whole ring replaced. I'm more worried about melee falling out etc as it might be hard to replace it nicely etc, and even though it might look 95% fine after replacing it, it would be something that can't be unseen once it's been seen if you know what I mean. But I obviously don't want to jinx myself and I'm hoping this ring will last and look beautiful for many many years to come.

They said they use 15% excess metal in the CAD, so that will be shaved down once it is cast to make it a bit more delicate. Also note that the main diamond will have 4 delicate pointy prongs and a V tip, which is not shown in the CAD. Many here might think the design is too plain, but I think it will look very clean and stylish with a clear focus on the main diamond, and it shouldn't get dated too quickly as some more extravagant designs might. It should also pair nicely (and sit flush) with her wedding ring (yet to buy) which will probably have a full row of diamonds to add the extra bling/detail and should distract less from main diamond in my opinion then having the diamonds along the engagement ring.

Anyway, most of you will probably not read what I wrote and just view the CAD, so here it is ;)

EDIT: I was thinking there was 4 individual prongs on each melee stone, but I see now that it is not. Not sure what this style is called, shared prong maybe? Anyway I like it and fingers crossed it's durable and we won't lose any melee.
