Custom is a lot more expensive IMO. You are having a piece created one off and so all the work goes into just that and not 10 identical.

From things I have had done, I would reckon at least twice the price of a similar stock piece for something not that ornate.
Sorry, just wanted to clarify that I am not talking about a 'designer' setting here, but more a custom version of something similar to a setting from Stuller or similar.

I like a lot of your designs. I have extra sparkle in mine, because FI loves it and I felt the green needed a bit of white sparkle to lift it.

Ultimately you need to go with her likes. You do need to take into account her lifestyle - rings with a lot of pave need to be babied quite a lot. If this is a ring you want her to wear 24/7 (which I wouldn't recommend) you need to think carefully about the sort of job she has etc

thanks for the input everyone, those links are very helpful examples. This is some tough stuff! I like a challenge though and want the best for her so I am excited! I don''t need to make any quick decisions(I need to tell myself that if I get overly excited ;)).

Also, what does RHR stand for? sorry I didn''t pick up that acronym yet, haha.

I have saved a ton of photos of rings off of here so I think she and I are going to have to just sit down one day and lay them out, she can say which she likes the most and least and we can build from there.

In you PS''er''s opinions, do you think it is necessary/smart to have the band pave''d all the way around? It''s not like she will be doing manual labor, but Pandora did bring up a good point I wasn''t really thinking about that pave needs to be babied. If that is the case I''d be more inclined to possibly leave the underside plain platinum. Maybe a message or something unique, but again I run into not wanting to ruin a clean look, haha.

Thanks again for everything so far!

Hey Ben...

RHR means Right Hand Ring.

I think you are smart to include her in the design process. My BF fully admits that he wouldn''t have even come close to what I wanted had he done it by himself instead of with me. And whatever you do, don''t make quick, rash decisions bc you will regret them later!

As far as the pave goes, I recently started a thread on this bc I had to make this decison 2 weeks ago. I too love the look of the pave all around, but was advised not to by Leon himself. Then most PSer''s advised not to bc of sizing reasons, but I was able to avoid the sizing problem by putting an insert in the ring. Ring Insert Pic
Basically, if you chose to do it, just remember that eventually it will have to be worked on and brought up to snuff... but I was willing to deal with that so I went for it... Just depends on how much maintenance you want to do on your ring. I don''t mind every couple of years.

Have you seen this Leon? It reminded me of the Tiffany''s ring you''re talking about.

I have diamonds from the 8 o''clock position to the 4 o''clock position which leaves a good chunk of metal underneath - and it looks all diamond from the top.

It''s also useful in case you ever need to resize - fingers change in size....

Pave does need extra care and although many people never loose a stone, you need to be prepared that it can happen - but is fixable.

I took ages to decide whether or not to have pave or not - and when with channel-setting because I didn''t want to have to send my ring back and forth from the UK should anything go wrong.

Thanks Scarlet16, that is a cool design!

Good input Pandora, I think keeping the bottom clean will be the way to go.

So I was talking to her today and showing her a lot of examples I have saved. She seems to think the look of the solitaires will "hang up" on something. However, when I asked how big she thought she wanted, she was like well I don't think there is a "too big". LOL. I think she would fit in nicely here. Anyways, its funny because she doesn't like how those large stones stick up and I was like "honey that is how all the stones will be it just will have a different setting appearance". She liked the bezel design since that seems like it is more compact and contained even though it is sticking up, it won't get "snagged" on something.

Basically we just need to go try some on, which is what she said also to see if she feels the same way. Something tells me once she has a decently sized solitaire on her hand she won't feel quite the same...

But maybe, all this will be helpful of course which is what matters so I can make it perfect.

Just as a reference, her only friend I know of that she knows is engaged has a 1ct melee bordered emerald cut. I definitely planned to go bigger than 1ct, I'd prefer over 2ct, with my dream(if affordable) to be 2.5ct main stone. Otherwise she really doesn't have any diamond rings or jewelry besides the diamond heart necklace I got her for christmas which she wears every day.

Point being her expecations aren't really set, compared to my sister who apparently said that if her BF got her a 2ct stone she would tell him he needed to go back to the store, LOL. Which in my opinion is ridiculous, even though he could afford much much larger, its the ring's significance that matters the cost/size itself is just an added bonus(which I'd like to maximize as well).
