Have 2 personal family inheritance items, a European Cut 1.58 carat round cut diamond ring and a diamond watch, that a family member and I want to sell to a local jeweler. We were given an appraisal of approximately $12,000 for the ring and $4,000 for the watch. My family member got this information and I believe the sale would be by consignment (?) but am not sure. The jeweler says their commission on the watch would be 30% and 25% on the ring. Is this a reasonable amount? It seems a little high to me, but this is the first time I've ever been involved in this type of transition. Thanks so much for any advice or information you may give!

It sounds very very high to me.

BTW, what you describe is a seller's commission, not a buyer's commission.

We probably recommend here if you have valuations with full descriptions listing the items on Loupetroop or DiamondBistro first if you wish to sell them yourself to maximise the amount you will get for them. If you are not comfortable doing this then the next suggestion would be to consign the piece to Jewels by Grace;

or Good Old Gold;
