This is revised with new photos please check again!!!!!

I am curious about the basic function of spacer bands. I was under the impression they were used for people with a irregular shaped erings so that a wedding band could sit flush....however a woman at work has a set similar to mine and she has a VERY small band inbetween her ering and wedding band, she said her jeweler reccomended it to her so they wouldn't bang into each other on her finger. Mine, as they are, sit flush enough for me however they do move around quite a bit and clink into each other a teeny bit. I had thought of possibly having them soldered but I like to take the ering off when I sleep/shower/do dishes. Should I invest in one of these spacer bands? Are they just really small bands? Like could I go out and get a 2mm plat band and just place it inbetween my wedding band and ering or are they something custom made? Heres is a pic of my wedding set to give you all an idea of how they sit:

Hi, Devientdrow! I have a spacer band, and love it! I purchased it so I wouldn''t have a big space between my rings but I''ve found that it also prevents the rings from scratching one another.

Now, for your rings I would probably get a custom spacer so it will fit your rings together like a puzzle. That will keep them from spinning, and will prevent there from being odd gaps between all the rings.

Here''s a link that shows the process I went through for my spacer.

Here''s another link discussing spacers.

Hope this helps!

Here''s a photo of my spacer. It looks MUCH bigger/more noticeable in this photo than in person.

what could look any bigger than your ring--its the mother ship of erings! wow!

Hi Devientdrow, you can see my spacer in my avitar. It was not custom made. It is a plain 2mm band and is used to keep my shared prong band from damaging my ER. The diamonds overhang and were putting grooves into my ER prongs.

Oops! I attached the wrong photo. Here''s the right one (it may be a bit small)....

It''s actually not that big. My e-ring is 3.22cts, and my w-band is 1.3-1.4ctw

Oh, and my finger is a size 4.5.

Here''s a closeup of Catmom''s spacer. Her ring was the inspiration for mine!

As you can see, there are several options. Catmom''s spacer band is not notched, whereas mine is. Also, I think hers is thinner than mine. I think mine is closer to 2.8mm on top and tapers, whereas hers is 2mm. The reason for mine being a bit thicker is the e-ring cuts into the band (fits like a puzzle piece).

Thanks Researcher! I forgot about that pic.

No problem

I knew right where to look for it as I fell in love with it the moment I saw it

In fact, I still love how your band is so invisible. Such a great set!

Thanks very much for the advice/photos and links. I guess I can go try and a plain 2mm band and see how that fits...if not perfectly then I suppose I will have to look for something custom made. Today my little sausage fingers are bloated and I can''t even get my rings off!! No spinning rings today :)

Also researcher is your band platinum or white gold?? If you don''t mind how much was it?? I think the custom would probably work well since my ring is a little odd shaped....I just don''t want to part with them again hahaha

My rings are all platinum. I''m not actually sure what the cost of the spacer band was as it was combined with the cost of my w-band (I was given one big quote). I will ask Denise when I next talk to her

I can tell you it was inexpensive enough that my hubby didn''t die from shock after seeing the price for both rings!

Thank you very much!!! I know the plain 2mm plat bands are around $300 i''m guessing something custom would be a little more!

I actually think it was right around that cost when I asked for the price (I just can''t remember back that far!). I was going to say $250-300 was the amount I was quoted, but I''m just not sure. I''d email WF and ask for a quote.

Recently I bought a 2mm white gold domed ring for my thumb, the seller sent the wrong size so it fits my ring finger, so I have started wearing it between my wedding ring and e-ring just for fun, I actually really like the look now and wear it almost all the time. My rings were made to sit flush..the 2mm one is also a bit lower in depth so it''s hardly visible from the side but from top down you can see it. It''s interesting as it changes my look and many people have said it looks like the diamond is set on the plain band flanked by 2 eternity rings. Optical illusion!

Anyway I wanted to post this so you could see that 2mm is not that incredibly thin, it will be visible, like these other gals here who have 2mm rings. Aljdewey recently got a spacer ring for her set which was rubbing on each other, I think it was actually a white gold TOE RING and it was something like 1mm, VERY thin, you can barely see it in her set at any angle unless you really look. Maybe you can check with your local toe ring place in the mall or at the next craft fair and see what they have. At that price you can buy 10 and then it won''t matter if they get dinged or scratched!

That looks so good, Mara!

It really does look like you have two diamond eternity bands around a simple solitaire

I got my plain 2mm plat band from signedpieces.com, and their price is under $300, under $200 if you''ve got size 3.5 fingers... http://www.thefacetscollection.com/item.cfm?item_id=747

Thanks R...it''s kind of a fun way to mix it up!! I''m getting more used to the look, to Greg''s chagrin, he doesn''t like the new band!

Oh and if you want a plain 2mm platinum dome band, I found Blue Nile had the best price, surprisingly, last I looked it was about $180.

$180 is a great price.

Mara, you sneak! That''s ingenious. It really is an optical illusion. I think I''m with Greg though. Your set is super "blingy" perfection pre-toe-spacer. Fun to have options!

Ok so I went out and looked at a 2mm plain plat band....did not like it at all it looked waaaaay too big! Then I found an even smaller plat band with VERY tiny diamond chips in it. The band itself was almost flat and on first putting it on I liked it and bought it. Now I think i''m gonna return it. It''s nice and it helps my ering and wedding band not hit into each other but I don''t think it makes them fit any more flush. I think i''m going to need something custom...I just have a wierd shaped ering and i''m going to need something to fill in the wierd spots in between that and my wedding band. Or mebbe i''m just being picky and too worried about them rubbing??? Here are pics:
Blurry but you get the idea....I think it''s probably somewhere between 1mm and 1.5mm

From the side you can see it actually makes the lining up worse:

My set on thier own...not too bad:
