need help with project for my mom!

hi everyone!

my sister and i have wanted to buy my mom a nice piece of jewelry for a long time. she doesn''t own anything ''nice'' and most definitely deserves it!

i thought a nice rhr was just what she needed... so i started looking at beverly k and simon g etc. band-type rings.

then i remembered that i have her wedding ring (from 1974), which bears a striking resemblance to that style of ring (such a trendsetter. Side note: my mom and father divorced when i was very young and this ring has been passed between my sister and me for a long as i can remember. my mom always loved the ring, and it was her only ''nice'' piece of jewelry.

so i talked with my sister about having her ring ''revamped'' as a rhr.

currently it has some very small emeralds (her favorite) and poorly cut diamonds on a floral engraved band.

our idea was to replace the emeralds and diamonds with ACA or similar ''wowzer'' diamonds - or possibly put our birthstones on the sides of the ring? or emeralds? and have the engraving work re-done -- basically keeping the same look of the ring.. just kicked up a couple hundred notches

this is where i''m stumped.. we don''t have a goldsmith or a jeweler that we trust where we live. do you all think this is something that''s even feasible to do? would a jeweler take this project on? should i source the diamonds myself from whiteflash and have someone else do the setting and re-engraving?

The ring is a great style and it''s so nice that you and your sister want to do something so nice for your mom! Has she worn the ring at all since her divorce? If you don''t think she''d mind wearing the same ring she was married with, it sounds like a great idea! Otherwise, you could start fresh with some diamonds and your birthstones. What are they btw?

I think her ring is beautiful, and I think your idea of putting your birthstones in there somewhere is a great one! I would check with WhiteFlash and see what they can do for you. I bet they could replace the diamonds with some nice ACA stones, put some birthstones in there, and rework the entire ring to make it more what you have in mind.

You know, my Mom''s birthstone is garnet (she was born in January), and for her 50th birthday I got her a garnet three-stone ring. I totally surprised her and I loved the look on her face! LOL! You''re gonna have so much fun with this!

i talked with my sister extensively about the ''if she would mind'' aspect...

but we decided she hasn''t worn this in... ummmm 26 years plus it will have all new (hopefully bigger dimaonds - re-engraved.. hopefully it''s going to look like an entirely different/but same ring. so we concluded she would love it....

i even thought in the future i could get her two little eternity bands to stack on either side

my sister and i even discussed getting rid of the original engraving on the inside and putting our initials Viz & Sis to Mom with the new date....

btw my mom''s birthstone is emerald - mine is aquamarine and my sister is june (pearl or alexandrite?) right?

Yep I think that''s right. Then you should definitely go for it! She will be so thrilled, both with the ring and the fact that you guys put so much effort into it for her. Keep us posted on how the plans are going!

how should i start to find a jeweler to take on this project?
should i start locally? or is there a p.s. vendor i should contact?

p.s. my dh and i are spoiled by p.s. vendors, i would be so leery about going to a local -yokle place.

I would contact a ps vendor. I will never be able to trust a local jeweler again for something important like this. Any jewelers in my podunk area just don''t seem to get it. They don''t understand cut quality or attention to detail, and they give me wrong information ALL the time! I say call a ps vendor for sure!
