Need help with platinum setting

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows of plain and simple platinum setting in the $500 range. I severly underestimated the cost of a setting and I''m a little shocked at the cost of a platinum setting. I found out too late that I spent too much on a diamond without factoring in the setting. I know I can get a white gold setting within this price range, but I don''t think my girlfriend likes it.

I would prefer if it''s somewhere local within in nyc and avoid the cost of shipping and insurance. But it doesn''t look like I have too many choices.

we''ve been hunting for rings and from my experience, i don''t think you can get a platinum ring for $500, unless it''s a blow out sale, but then again there won''t be any resize on clearance pieces

With that budget, options are limited to white gold

Whiteflash has simple platinum settings for $600. They do a nice job of setting the stone, too, although some jewelers have a preference to only set stones they sell. Make sure you check.

I wouldn't think it would be a problem to get the stone set in a WG setting and plan on updating in the future.

You can get a plain tiffany style setting around that price in platinum. Any jeweler should be able to get one for you. They come in 4 or 6 prongs. You can see what they look like on the WF site, but you should be able to get that setting locally.

I got my six prong knife edge, inspired by Tiffany, platinum setting for $600. I think that''s the average price. If it''s still out of your budget, you could do a white gold setting temporarily and then change it later. White gold settings are around $200-$250.

Maybe wait a bit longer? Platinum price seems to be dropping very fast, not sure when will that, if ever, translate into lower platinum jewelry price though...

Or you can try palladium?
