I just purchased/downloaded DiamCalc (real version, not trial) and I think it is very cool, though I am certainly a novice and don''t understand much of what it can do...yet.

My question right now has to do with finding models for shapes other than the basic ones that come with the program. I''d like to play around with some different cushion cuts, because that is what I am currently searching for, but it would be neat to have asscher/SE models as well. I have been trying to find them, but no luck. Here is what I have tried so far.

--I have installed DiamCalc, GemAdvisor, and GemCad(free 30 day trial)
--I have installed DataVue2, but I cannot seem to solve the driver problem and so I cannot actually use it. When I am in GemCad, it will let me search the database, but not open any of the files.
--I found a few models online, but no cushions.
--I have some cushion .gem files saved (thanks GOG!), but when I open them in DiamCalc, it won''t le me manipulate them the same way as I can the standard cuts. In particular, it only allows for a single diameter, which doesn''t help much on a rectangle!

So if you have any suggestions, please let me know how I can find other cut models to import into DiamCalc. I am esp. interested in different types of cushions, old and new!

Thanks!

hey fatafelice,
congrats on your diamcalc purchase, you are going to have a lot of fun with it. have you looked through garry''s tutorial here?

Thanks, Belle, I already have spent way too much time playing with it!

I did look through tht tutorial, and some of it was very helpful, but I''ll admit that a lot of it it still over my head. I don''t think there''s anything there that solves this particular problem for me.

You can change Pavilion and Crown heights too.

I''m not sure I understand...but maybe what I want to do isn''t possible.

What I''d like to be able to do is use measurements from an unseen diamond to create a "visual" for myself. I need a starting point with the same shape that I can alter with my own numbers (from a Sarin). The only cushions I have on file come up with a single diameter (that represents the average), say 7.00 mm. Unlike the basic shapes that come with the program (emerald, radiant, etc.), my .gem files do not allow a "diameter" and "sec. diameter" to account for width and length, so I cannot change the proportions or ratio of the stone. What I would like are basic cut models for cushions (like the basic models of the round, etc. that come with the program) so that I can then "play" with it.

I know that unless I have an exact model of the exact diamond and all of it''s measurements, I will not have a true representation of what that diamond looks like, but I thought it would be fun an a little helpful to be able to create a picture of a diamond that I cannot actually see. And even if I could work from scratch in GemCad, I don''t have enough info on the stones to do so. Perhaps, there is no solution? I''ll just have to go back to playing with rounds...

You can change Pavilion and Crown heights for any scann model on page "Proportions".( and you can move culet, table)

Yes , You can not change Second diameter( Rt) for scann models now.

Under the first "advanced tab" you can make a round into a cushion with the top tool - Square Deviation.

Have fun.

Thanks, Gary!!! That''s awesome!
